Biosimilars in pediatric rheumatology: innovations, challenges, and opportunities.

Expert Opin Biol Ther

January 2025

Department of Pediatric Rheumatology, Kocaeli University, Kocaeli, Turkey.

Article Synopsis
  • Biosimilars are biologic drugs that mimic established medications for treating rheumatic diseases and become available as cost-effective alternatives once original patents expire.
  • Since their introduction in pediatric rheumatology in 2013, several biosimilars have been launched, offering more treatment options for children with conditions like juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
  • The article emphasizes the need for education and effective communication among healthcare providers and patients to enhance understanding and ensure proper use of biosimilars.

Leaf Phosphorus Fractions Are Coordinated with Leaf Functional Traits in Four Juvenile Tree Species from the Chinese Subtropics.

Plants (Basel)

December 2024

Anhui Provincial Key Laboratory of Forest Resources and Silviculture, School of Forestry & Landscape Architecture, Anhui Agricultural University, Hefei 230036, China.

Phosphorus (P) is essential for cellular processes, and P fractions within leaf tissues reflect distinct biochemical functions. However, the relationship among foliar P allocation, leaf functional traits, and soil properties in subtropical China remains poorly understood. Here, we investigated four tree species to examine the relationships among foliar P fractions (orthophosphate P, metabolic P, nucleic acid P, lipid P, and residual P), key leaf functional traits (LMA, A, and leaf [N], and P concentrations), and soil properties.

Study of the SPL gene family and miR156-SPL module in Populus tomentosa: Potential roles in juvenile-to-adult phase transition and reproductive phase.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Tree Genetics and Breeding, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing 100083, China; National Engineering Research Center of Tree Breeding and Ecological Restoration, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing 100083, China; Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Tree Breeding by Molecular Design, College of Biological Sciences and Technology, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing 100083, China. Electronic address:

Populus tomentosa, a deciduous tree species distinguished by its significant economic and ecological value, enjoys a wide-ranging natural distribution. However, its long juvenile period severely restricts the advancement of breeding work. The SPL gene family, a distinctive class of transcription factors exclusive to the plant kingdom, is critical in various processes of plant growth and development.

The false evidence rate: An approach to frequentist error rate control conditioning on the observed value.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

January 2025

Centre for Human Genetics, Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, Oxford OX3 7BN, United Kingdom.

A value is conventionally interpreted either as a) the probability by chance of obtaining more extreme results than those observed or b) a tool for declaring significance at a prespecified level. Both approaches carry difficulties: b) does not allow users to make inferences based on the data in hand, and is not rigorously followed by researchers in practice, while (a) is not meaningful as an error rate. Although values retain an important role, these shortcomings are likely to have contributed significantly to the scientific reproducibility crisis.
