"Using model calculations to the year 2050, this paper shows the decisive role that assumptions on future (net) migration to Germany will play in the long-term development of the labor force potential. The particular focus of this paper is to point out the importance of (net) migration not only in terms of absolute figures, but more importantly in terms of the age and gender structure. The annual net migration of 500,000 or 250,000 persons leads, depending on the assumption of its age structure, to extreme differences in the long-term development of the labor force potential." Optical characterization of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) freshly collected from the circumneutral "white water" of the Rio Solimoes revealed that it had lower aromaticity, lower molecular weight, and a greater autochthonous content than DOC from the acidic "black water" of the Rio Negro. The tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum), a characid member of the Serrasalmidae, is a model neotropical fish that migrates annually between the two rivers. We analysed ionoregulatory responses of the tambaqui over 24 h in ion-poor water at pH 7.

Electroosmosis reduces the available energy from ion transport arising due to concentration gradients across ion-exchange membranes. This work builds on previous efforts to describe the electroosmosis, the permselectivity and the apparent transport number of a membrane, and we show new measurements of concentration cells with the Selemion CMVN cation-exchange membrane and single-salt solutions of HCl, LiCl, NaCl, MgCl, CaCl and NHCl. Ionic transport numbers and electroosmotic water transport relative to the membrane are efficiently obtained from a relatively new permselectivity analysis method.
