Experiments were performed on mongrel dogs. Biochemical changes of the blood and functional disturbances in the organism were studied after a two-stage devascularization of the liver at different periods after the second stage, i.e. after the ligation of the hepatic artery. Early disturbances in the intermediary metabolism were the consequence of the two-stage devascularization, i.e. of the rise of the pyruvate and the lactate, an increase of ammonia in the blood and serum transaminases. Biochemical changes of the blood precede and accompany the encephalopathia and serious hemodynamic disturbances in the organism. The mentioned method was capable of causing hepatic coma.

Purpose: Ischemic complications after nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) can be ameliorated by 2-stage procedures wherein devascularization of the nipple-areolar complex (NAC) and lumpectomy with or without nodal staging surgery is performed first (1S), weeks prior to a completion NSM (2S). We report the time interval between procedures in relation to the presence of residual carcinoma at 2S NSM.
Methods: Women with breast cancer who received 2S NSM from 2015 to 2022 were identified.

Background: Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) has evolved as a standard surgical option. The NSM complication rate remains high in large breasts. To reduce the risk of necrosis, several authors have proposed delayed procedures to enhance blood supply to the nipple-areola complex (NAC).

Background: Devascularization of the nipple-areola complex (NAC) before nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) enhances blood flow to the skin. This study analyzed the effect of the interval between stages in two-stage (2S) operations and compared the ischemic events with those of one-stage (1S) NSM.
Methods: Ischemic complications were defined as partial/reversible (PR) or full-thickness/irreversible (FI) skin necrosis of the NAC or flap.

Introduction Arteriovenous fistulae (AVF) are considered a better option for long-term dialysis access. The distal radiocephalic AVF is the most preferred followed by proximal radiocephalic, brachiocephalic and brachiobasilic AVFs (BBAVF) with basilic vein transposition. In case of failure of AVF at other anatomical locations, BBAVF may improve the outcomes for patients needing dialysis for long term.

Background: For the removal of well fixed femoral stems, various standard and extended approaches are possible, all of which have their advantages and disadvantages. They should allow good visualization and avoid uncontrolled damage to the bone (especially devascularization and fractures) and to the musculature (especially the gluteus medius). As an extended approach we prefer the transfemoral approach in a modified Wagner technique.
