It appeared that acetylsalicylic acid considerably decreased both development of the infarction-like foci of necrosis and primary damage of the myocardial cells experimentally induced in animals by direct action of novodrin and expressed in the course of the first hour. This led to the supposition that acetylsalicylic acid not only prevented platelet aggregation, but also increased the resistance of the myocardial cells to the injurious action of catecholamines.

Effect of age, sex, breed and venipuncture site on platelet count and clumping in feline blood samples.

J Feline Med Surg

Department of Clinical Studies, Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

Objectives: To evaluate the associations between sex, age, breed and collection site on platelet count and platelet clumping in feline blood samples.

Methods: Cats presenting to a primary care feline hospital from January 2016 to January 2017 were recruited. Any cat undergoing blood collection for a complete blood count was eligible.

Background: Programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression on immune cells is correlated with the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy in various types of cancer. Platelets are important components of the tumour microenvironment (TME) and are widely involved in the development of many types of cancer including colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the role of PD-L1 positive platelets in ICI therapy for CRC remains unknown.

Background: Preeclampsia significantly impacts maternal and perinatal health. Early screening using advanced models and primary prevention with low-dose acetylsalicylic acid for high-risk populations is crucial to reduce the disease's incidence. This study assesses the feasibility of implementing preterm preeclampsia screening and prevention by leveraging information from our current aneuploidy screening program in a real-world setting with geographic separation clinical site and laboratory analysis site.

This study evaluated the impact of aspirin on the biochemical recurrence (BCR) rate following robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) in patients. A database search identified patients who underwent RARP for pT2-3N0M0 disease at any of 25 centers between 2011 and 2022, categorized into aspirin (n = 350) and control groups (n = 5857). Adjustment by 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM) and Mahalanobis distance matching (MDM) created 350 matched pairs.

Objective: Bosentan (BOS) is approved for treating pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and preventing digital ulcers (DU) in systemic sclerosis (SSc). Our study aimed to evaluate whether BOS prescribed for DU could reduce the incidence of PAH in a large SSc cohort from the SPRING registry.

Methods: Patients with SSc from the SPRING registry, meeting ACR/EULAR 2013 classification criteria with data on PAH onset, DU status, BOS exposure, and at least a one-year follow-up between 2015 and 2020, and no known PAH at baseline were included.
