Silicon/carbon (Si/C) materials have achieved commercial applications as a solution to the problems of large volume expansion and short lifespan of silicon-based anodes in lithium-ion batteries. However, the potential risk of structural fracture and localized differences in surface adsorption properties lead to difficulties in maintaining the structural integrity of Si/C anodes using conventional binders during repeated lithiation/delithiation. Herein, an aqueous binder (PVA-g-M) based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) grafted methacrylic acid (MAA) obtained by self-emulsifyingemulsion polymerization is reported.

In this paper, in order to investigate the harmonious relationship between the compression deformation behavior of metastable β titanium alloy and the microstructure evolution, the β solution-treated Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al (Ti-1023) alloy was compressed at room temperature and its deformation behavior was analyzed. Optical microscopy (OM) and field emission electron microscopy (FESEM) were used to study the microstructure evolution of alloys at different strain rates. The results show that the stress-induced martensite transformation (SIMT) is more easily activated by low strain rate compression deformation, which is conducive to improving its comprehensive mechanical properties.

The laminae of varying lithologies are characteristic of shale oil reservoirs, with their pronounced heterogeneity and fluid-solid coupling significantly impacting oil productivity. To this end, this study initially quantified the permeability and mechanical heterogeneity in lamina-developed shale through permeability tests and quasi triaxial mechanical experiments on shale cores from different orientations in the Jiyang Depression. These tests revealed marked brittleness in horizontally oriented cores and elasticity in vertically oriented cores.

Elastic, strong and tough ionically conductive elastomers.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Laboratoire Sciences et Ingénierie de la Matiére Molle, ESPCI Paris, CNRS, PSL University, Paris, France.

Stretchable elastic materials with high strength, toughness, and good ionic conductivity are highly desirable for wearable devices and stretchable batteries. Unfortunately, limited success has been reported to attain all of these properties simultaneously. Here, we report a family of ionically conductive elastomers (ICEs) without compromise between mechanical properties (high stiffness, reversible elasticity, fracture resistance) and ionic conductivity, by introducing a multiple network elastomer (MNE) architecture into a low polymer.

Collagen/polyvinyl alcohol scaffolds combined with platelet-rich plasma to enhance anterior cruciate ligament repair.

In anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair methods, the continuous enzymatic erosion of synovial fluid can impede healing and potentially lead to repair failure, as well as exacerbate articular cartilage wear, resulting in joint degeneration. Inspired by the blood clot during medial collateral ligament healing, we developed a composite scaffold comprising collagen (1 %, w/v) and polyvinyl alcohol (5 %, w/v) combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The composite scaffold provides a protective barrier against synovial erosion for the ruptured ACL, while simultaneously facilitating tissue repair, thereby enhancing the efficacy of ACL repair techniques.
