Published: September 2002

Background: Reconstruction of the labiomental area presents certain difficulties, especially in the assessment and selection of the incision lines to obtain the best cosmetic result. Among the factors influencing the selection of a reconstruction technique are the presence of natural folds and creases, skin laxity, and the size, shape, and orientation of the wound. Many operative techniques have been described for the reconstruction of this region.

Objective: To describe a combination of reconstruction techniques which restore the form, preserve sensation, and provide function of the labiomental region after ablative surgery.

Methods: We present two patients with reconstruction of the labiomental area where it was possible to preserve the vermilion of the lower lip after wide excision. The method of reconstruction constitutes a of modification of the Bernard method and Schuchardt procedure.

Results: Satisfactory results were obtained with preservation of the sensitivity of the lower lip, competent lip seal, and avoidance of microstomia, in addition to a good aesthetic appearance.

Conclusion: The described technique is a preferable technique in patients for whom vermilion of the lower lip should be preserved after wide excision. The technique restores the form, preserves sensation, and provides function-the principles of a successful reconstruction.

Background: The Restylane portfolio of soft tissue fillers spans a wide range of indications, due in part to their complementary manufacturing technologies [non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) and Optimal Balance Technology (OBT/XpresHAn)]. Using an array of products, injectors can achieve a holistic, natural looking effect for their patients. However, with a wide range of products it may be difficult to choose an optimal combination.

Background: In recent years, there has been an increase in reports of perioral vascular complications resulting from filler injections, such as necrosis of the lip or alar rim, occlusion, and in severe cases, blindness. Conversely, the use of perioral arterial flaps is becoming more prevalent in the treatment of cleft lips, cancer, and trauma. A thorough understanding of perioral arteries is essential to minimize complications and maximize the success of these flaps.

Major defects of the facial structures cause severe functional and esthetic impairment. Difficulty in head and neck reconstruction lies in cases of secondary, tertiary, or further reconstruction. This is not a rare situation for patients who had cancer of the upper airways, since the rate of recurrence, second location, or osteoradionecrosis is high.

Condylar displacement and remodelling are phenomena closely related to orthognathic surgery and critically involved in occlusal and skeletal stability. The aim of the present case report is to describe over time condylar displacement and surface remodelling after bilateral split sagittal osteotomy (BSSO) in an adult patient with severe class II skeletal malocclusion treated with ortho-surgical approach. A male of 21years comes to our observation.

Background: Demand for lip filler injection continues to increase. Despite the current literature's acknowledgement of the role both venous and arterial vasculature play in minor and major side effects, research addressing the venous vasculature of the lower one-third of the face is scarce.

Methods: A photographic analysis of the venous vasculature of 26 participants was performed using a vein transilluminator to display the venous flow around the perioral region.
