Wearable ultrasound (US) is a novel sensing approach that shows promise in multiple application domains, and specifically in hand gesture recognition (HGR). In fact, US enables to collect information from deep musculoskeletal structures at high spatiotemporal resolution and high signal-to-noise ratio, making it a perfect candidate to complement surface electromyography for improved accuracy performance and on-the-edge classification. However, existing wearable solutions for US-based gesture recognition are not sufficiently low power for continuous, long-term operation.

How to evaluate over 60 million blood glucose data - The design of the MÉRY Diabetes Database.

J Diabetes Complications

October 2023

Department of Medicine and Oncology, Semmelweis University, 1083 Budapest, Korányi Sándor u. 2/a, Hungary. Electronic address:

Aims: The aim of the article is to describe the method for creating a close to ideal diabetes database. The MÉRY Diabetes Database (MDD) consists of a large quantity of reliable, well-maintained, precise and up-to-date data suited for clinical research with the intention to improve diabetes care in terms of maintaining targeted blood glucose levels, avoiding hypoglycemic episodes and complications and improving patient compliance and quality of life.

Methods: Based on the analysis of the databases found in the literature and the experience of our research team, nine important characteristics were identified as critical to an ideal diabetes database.

This study employed a text-analysis methodology to identify themes within patient comments and measure the relationship of those themes to patient satisfaction. Using these findings, a spreadsheet tool was created to allow a large sample of comments to be readily analyzed. The tool was validated using patient comment data provided by the Family Medicine Residency of Idaho.

Engineered Geomedia Kaolin Clay-Reduced Graphene Oxide-Polymer Composite for the Remediation of Olaquindox from Water.

ACS Omega

September 2022

Wastewater Treatment Research Laboratory, Faculty of Applied and Computer Sciences, Department of Biotechnology and Chemistry, Vaal University of Technology, Vanderbijlpark 1911, South Africa.

Globally, there is an upsurge in the use of unregulated veterinary pharmaceuticals with enhanced release into the environment, resulting in water pollution, which is difficult to remediate. To address this issue, we synthesized and characterized highly hydrophobic three-dimensional ordered engineered geomedia with multiple channels. Kaolin clay (K) was functionalized with either graphene oxide (GO) synthesized via Tour's method or reduced GO in situ with covalently linked methoxyether polyethylene glycol (GO-PEG) using a simple and easily scalable amidation reaction.

Due to inadequate pharmaceutical wastewater treatment, anticancer contaminants from the pharmaceutical industry frequently end up in the aquatic environment where they endanger aquatic life and humans. As a result, the appropriate treatment of wastewater that contains anticancer agents is crucial for pollution prevention. The purpose of this work is to assess the effectiveness of a FeO@ZIF-8 nanocomposite as an adsorbent to remove of the chemotherapeutic drugs doxorubicin (DOX) from aqueous solution.
