Limited protective immunologic responses to natural infection and a lack of knowledge about mechanisms of protection have hampered development of an effective vaccine. Recent studies in humans and mice have found meningococcal outer membrane vesicle-containing vaccines (OMV) induce cross species immune responses against gonococci and are associated with protection. The exact mechanisms or how humoral and cellular immunity are related to protection, remain unclear.

Reducing protochlorophyllide (Pchlide) to chlorophyllide (Chlide) is a major regulatory step in the chlorophyll biosynthesis pathway. This reaction is catalyzed by light-dependent protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase (LPOR) in oxygenic phototrophs, particularly angiosperms. LPOR-NADPH and Pchlide form a ternary complex to be efficiently photo-transformed to synthesize Chlide and, subsequently, chlorophyll during the transition from skotomorphogenesis to photomorphogenesis.

Long-term fertilization can result in the changes in carbon (C) cycle in the maize rhizosphere soil. However, there have been few reports on the impacts of microbial regulatory mechanisms on the C cycle in soil. In the study, we analyzed the response of functional genes that regulate the C fixation, decomposition and methane (CH) metabolism in maize rhizosphere soil to different fertilization treatments using metagenomics analysis.

The ability of Neisseria meningitidis Outer Membrane Vesicles (OMV) to induce protective responses in humans is well established and mainly attributed to Porin A (PorA). However, the contribution of additional protein antigens to protection remains to be elucidated. In this study we dissected the immunogenicity of antigens originating from the OMV component of the 4CMenB vaccine in mice and humans.

Introduction: Neisseria meningitidis is associated with invasive infections causing high mortality rates. The objective of this study was to describe the population structure of Colombian invasive isolates with ST-9493, a potentially emerging clonal group in the country.
Methods: The complete genomes of 34 invasive isolates of serogroup B with ST-9493 and its variants at one or two loci were sequenced by Illumina to describe the phenotypic and genotypic characteristics of these isolates.
