A phytobezoar is a conglomerate of improperly digested fruit and vegetable debris, and its development is associated, amongst other factors, with previous gastric surgery. Most phytobezoars remain asymptomatic and are incidentally found during imaging or interventional procedures. However, in some patients, they can cause small bowel obstruction, which can subsequently lead to severe complications.

Intragastric balloons have been used as an invasive non-surgical treatment for obesity for over 30 years. Within the last 37 years, we have found only 27 cases reported in the literature of intestinal obstruction caused by a migrated intragastric balloon. We report the laparoscopic management of such a case and make observations from similar case presentations published in the literature.

Introduction: Denture ingestion or aspiration is a problem requiring awareness of different specialists including dentists, surgeons, otolaryngologists, anesthesiologists etc. in terms of prevention, early diagnosis and adequate treatment. Complications of swallowed dentures include hollow viscus necrosis, perforation, penetration to neighbor organs leading to fistulae, bleeding and obstruction.

The effectiveness of laparoscopic intestinal resection in patients with previous midline laparotomy (PML) is controversial. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of laparoscopic surgery and identify possible factors associated with postoperative outcomes in patients with PML. Patients with PML (at least an infraumbilical incision or longer) undergoing elective laparoscopic intestinal resection between 1997 and 2011 were case matched with patients without PML undergoing laparoscopic surgery based on age, gender, body mass index, ASA score, surgical procedure, and diagnosis.

Methods: Laparoscopic repair was attempted in 117 consecutive patients (median age 68 (range 31-91) years, 50 men) undergoing 122 operations.
