Objectives: The purpose of this study was the development of the quality of life (QOL) questionnaire for dementia (QOL-D) in Japan.

Methods: We performed a questionnaire survey of QOL assessment in elderly patients with dementia in Japan, and developed QOL-D.

Results: The final version consists of only 31 items grouped into six response sets, each with its own scale. Reliability is good to excellent, and validity is, to some extent, established. The six domains of health-related QOL are divided into two groups. One is the positive and the other is the negative aspects of health-related QOL. The positive aspects have been shown to correlate positively with cognitive function and activities of daily living (ADL) score, whereas the negative aspects have not. The concept of QOL for elderly patients with dementia in Japan is similar to that in Western countries.

Conclusion: We demonstrated that QOL-D is a reliable and valid instrument for QOL assessment in elderly patients with dementia in Japan.

Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is the most common hereditary cerebral small vessel disease caused by mutations in the NOTCH3 gene. This review highlights the increasing recognition of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) as a significant manifestation of CADASIL, often predominantly characterized by ischemic strokes and vascular dementia. Recent studies indicate that the prevalence of ICH in CADASIL patients ranges from 0.

Objectives: Many studies have examined the impact of employment on health, but few large-scale longitudinal studies specifically investigate the impact of agricultural labor on the health of older adults. This study aims to identify the health effects of employment on older Japanese adults, focusing on agricultural workers.

Methods: This study uses longitudinal data collected by the Japan Gerontological Evaluation Study (JAGES) from 2013 to 2019.

Background: Sensory impairments have been linked to dementia. However, the impact of dual sensory impairment (DSI), combining both vision impairment and hearing impairment, on dementia has shown inconsistent results.

Objective: To systematically review the evidence on the association DSI and dementia.

Plasma amyloid-β (Aβ) markers are significant predictors of Aβ pathology. However, their prognostic value for cognition in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) is unknown. We compared plasma amyloid-β precursor protein (APP) and Aβ levels between cognitively unimpaired participants (CU) and those with MCI due to AD and AD dementia.

Background: A neuroinflammatory disease such as Alzheimer's disease, presents a significant challenge in neurotherapeutics, particularly due to the complex etiology and allostatic factors, referred to as CNS stressors, that accelerate the development and progression of the disease. These CNS stressors include cerebral hypo-glucose metabolism, hyperinsulinemia, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, impairment of neuronal autophagy, hypoxic insults and neuroinflammation. This study aims to explore the efficacy and safety of DAG-MAG-ΒHB, a novel ketone diester, in mitigating these risk factors by sustaining therapeutic ketosis, independent of conventional metabolic pathways.
