Aims: Despite receiving guideline-directed medical heart failure (HF) therapy, patients with pulmonary hypertension associated with left heart disease (PH-LHD) experience higher mortality and hospitalization rates than the general HF population. AZD3427 is a functionally selective, long-acting mimetic of relaxin, a hormone that has the potential to induce vasodilation and prevent fibrosis. In a phase 1b study conducted in patients with HF, AZD3427 demonstrated a favourable safety and pharmacokinetic profile.

Background: Research suggests that although men have a higher cardiovascular disease (CVD) rate, women with CVD are more likely to experience a poorer prognosis, possibly owing to incorrect diagnosis and poorer treatment. A question not yet addressed is whether some of this inequality could be due to sex bias when selecting patients for operation.
Method: The participants were from the Scottish Heart Health Extended Cohort who had been admitted to hospital with a cardiovascular diagnosis over the study period.

While there is strong evidence that younger adults use contextual information to generate semantic predictions, findings from older adults are less clear. Age affects cognition in a variety of different ways that may impact prediction mechanisms; while the efficiency of memory systems and processing speed decrease, life experience leads to complementary increases in vocabulary size, real-world knowledge, and even inhibitory control. Using the visual world paradigm, we tested prediction in younger ( = 30, between 18 and 35 years of age) and older adults ( = 30, between 53 and 78 years of age).

Background: Within the United States, White individuals experience a higher risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) while exhibiting a lower AF-related stroke risk compared to other ethnic groups. It is possible that these observations stem from phenomena unique to the United States, such as differential health care access. The United Kingdom provides socialized medicine, which ostensibly promotes equitable health care access.

University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom.
Background: Scotland has one of the highest rates of obesity in the developed world which increases risk of lower limb osteoarthritis resulting in total joint arthroplasty (TJA). This paper aimed to investigate (1) current practice of orthopaedic consultants in Scotland in managing end-stage hip and knee osteoarthritis in obese patients, (2) adherence to National guidelines, and (3) understanding of complication risks in lower limb TJA for BMI≥40.
Methods: A 15-question online survey was sent to all active members of Scottish Committee for Orthopaedics and Trauma (SCOT) between February and March 2023 to understand the current practices for managing obese patients with lower limb arthritis requiring joint replacement surgery.
