It has been studied the antibiotic sensitivity of 27 Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains belonging to only two types, isolated hospitalized children and responsible of different clinical pictures. The strains were in vitro resistant to Carbenicillin, Sisomicine, Gentamycine and many other antibiotic tested, partially resistant to Tobramycin and sensitive to Amikacine, Polimixine B and Colistatin.

CT scans do not reliably identify appendicoliths in acute appendicitis.

Surg Pract Sci

September 2022

Professor of Surgery, New York Medical College, Chief of Surgery, Metropolitan Hospital Center, New York, NY, United States.

Background: Both the CODA trial and the 2020 WSES Jerusalem guidelines concluded that nonoperative management of appendicitis (NOMA) was non-inferior for uncomplicated appendicitis but appendicoliths increase risk for complications. Thus "Appendicoliths on CT" are a relative contraindication to NOMA but accuracy of CT in identifying appendicoliths is just assumed.

Materials And Methods: We conducted an EMR review of 1552 appendectomy patients, who had pre-operative CT scans for suspected acute appendicitis from 2001-2019.

The misuse and uncontrolled release of pharmaceuticals into water bodies lead to environmental challenges and the development of resistance, thereby reducing their effectiveness. To mitigate these problems, it is essential to identify pharmaceuticals in water sources and eliminate them prior to human use. This study presents the designing of a novel nanosensor for the detection of the antibiotic Cefoperazone Sodium Sulbactam Sodium (CSSS).

Fever for days: A challenging case of dalbavancin-induced fever.

IDCases

December 2024

Division of Infectious Diseases, Department of Internal Medicine, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, IL, USA.

Dalbavancin is a novel long acting lipoglycopeptide antibiotic with a favorable safety profile approved for treating Acute Bacterial Skin and Skin Structure Infections (ABSSSI) caused by Gram-positive organisms. Given its long half-life, a two-dose regimen can provide effective systemic therapy for up to six weeks, making it an appealing option to avoid prolonged intravenous antibiotic therapy. Herein, we report a case of a 27-year-old male who developed dalbavancin-induced fever while treating Methicillin-sensitive (MSSA) bacteremia.
