Influence of structure and chirality of the selector on the chiral recognition of amino acids using ligand-exchange capillary electrophoresis. | LitMetric
The dependence of the chiral recognition ability and enantiomer migration order on the structure, substitution pattern and chirality of chiral selectors used in ligand-exchange capillary electrophoresis is investigated. As chiral selectors different N-alkyl derivatives of proline and hydroxyproline as their copper(II) complexes are used. The influence of the position and conformation of the hydroxy group in the hydroxyproline derivatives and of the structure and chirality of the side chain on enantioselectivity is investigated. Furthermore, the effect of surfactants such as sodium dodecyl sulfate and cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide on resolution and enantiomer migration order is studied. The investigations were carried out with three aromatic amino acids as model compounds.

Synthetic cathinones belong to one of the biggest and most popular classes of New Psychoactive Substances. Each year, new derivatives appear on the drug market, traded under various labels like "bath salts" or "legal highs". In recent years, the emergence of new cathinone derivatives, containing a cyclohexyl residue, has been observed.
Simultaneous rheological, polarized light imaging, and small-angle X-ray scattering experiments (Rheo-PLI-SAXS) are developed, thereby providing unprecedented level of insight into the multiscale orientation of hierarchical systems in simple shear. Notably, it is observed that mesoscale alignment in the flow direction does not develop simultaneously across nano-micro lengthscales in sheared suspensions of rod-like chiral-nematic (meso) phase forming cellulose nanocrystals. Rather, with increasing shear rate, orientation is observed first at mesoscale and then extends to the nanoscale, with influencing factors being the aggregation state of the hierarchy and concentration.

A new series of chiral δ-thiolactone derivatives have been prepared. These compounds exemplify the acetalic N-C-S reversibility of fused thiazolidines toward the thermodynamic product. The stereochemistry of the synthesized compounds was elucidated using X-ray crystallography, NOESY spectroscopy, and DFT calculations.
Chiral metal clusters, due to their intriguing optical properties and unique resemblance in size to biomolecules, have attracted a lot of attention in recent times as potential candidates for application in bio-detection and therapy. While several strategies are reported for the synthesis of optically active clusters, a facile approach that enhances a multitude of properties has remained a challenge. Herein, we report a simple strategy wherein the use of a chiral cationic surfactant, during the synthesis of achiral clusters, leads to the fabrication of chiral assemblies possessing enhanced luminescence and optical activity.

Genome mining has emerged as an important tool for the discovery of natural products and is particularly effective for the swift identification of ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs). Among RiPPs, cyanobactins have gained attention due to their diverse structures and bioactive properties. Here, we explored the Microcoleaceae cyanobacterium LEGE 16532 strain and identified the biosynthetic gene cluster (BGC), which was predicted to encode cyanobactin-like molecules.
