Author Correction: Novel electrode technologies for neural recordings.

In part b of Figure 2 in this article, the left bounds of the boxes representing the spatiotemporal resolution of 'EEG/MEG' and 'ECoG' were incorrect. Specifically, the limits of highest temporal resolution for EEG/MEG and ECoG were shown as ~200 ms and ~10 ms and are now corrected to ~2 ms and < 1 ms, respectively. In addition, the lower bounds of the boxes representing 'fMRI/PET' and 'EEG/MEG' incorrectly showed the highest spatial resolution limits of these technologies as ~1 mm and have been corrected to <1 mm and <10 mm, respectively.

Limbic networks: clinical perspective.

Int Rev Neurobiol

March 2015

Department of Neurology, David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, USA.

Limbic epilepsy refers to a condition that consists of epileptic seizures that originate in or preferentially involve the limbic system. The majority of cases are medically refractory, necessitating surgical resection when possible. However, even resection of structures thought to be responsible for seizure generation may not leave a patient seizure free.

From the neuromatrix to the pain matrix (and back).

Exp Brain Res

Department of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology, University College London, Medical Sciences Building, Gower Street, London, WC1E 6BT, UK.

Pain is a conscious experience, crucial for survival. To investigate the neural basis of pain perception in humans, a large number of investigators apply noxious stimuli to the body of volunteers while sampling brain activity using different functional neuroimaging techniques. These responses have been shown to originate from an extensive network of brain regions, which has been christened the Pain Matrix and is often considered to represent a unique cerebral signature for pain perception.

Cortical organisation is based on the principles of functional specialisation and functional integration. Those two concepts exist at multiple spatial scales. For example at a macroscopic level, functionally segregated areas V1 and V5 are integrated within the dorsal visual stream.
