Efficiency of Bacteriophage-Based Detection Methods for Non-Typhoidal in Foods: A Systematic Review.

Viruses

November 2024

Centre for Epidemiology and Planetary Health, School of Veterinary Medicine, Scotland's Rural College, Inverness IV2 5NA, UK.

Food contamination with non-typhoidal (NTS) presents a significant public health risk, underscoring the critical need for rigorous food safety measures throughout the production, distribution, preparation, and consumption stages. Conventional diagnostic strategies are time-consuming and labor-intensive and are thus sub-optimal for throughput NTS detection. Bacteriophages (phages) are highly specialized bacterial viruses and exhibit extreme specificity for their hosts.

Research Progress of MEMS Gas Sensors: A Comprehensive Review of Sensing Materials.

Sensors (Basel)

December 2024

Ministry-of-Education Key Laboratory for the Green Preparation and Application of Functional Materials, School of Materials Science & Engineering, Hubei University, Wuhan 430062, China.

The MEMS gas sensor is one of the most promising gas sensors nowadays due to its advantage of small size, low power consumption, and easy integration. It has been widely applied in energy components, portable devices, smart living, etc. The performance of the gas sensor is largely determined by the sensing materials, as well as the fabrication methods.

Methylene blue is a cationic organic dye commonly found in wastewater, groundwater, and surface water due to industrial discharge into the environment. This emerging pollutant is notably persistent and can pose risks to both human health and the environment. In this study, we developed a Surface Plasmon Resonance Biosensor employing a BK7 prism coated with 3 nm chromium and 50 nm of gold in the Kretschmann configuration, specifically for the detection of methylene blue.

Ketamine HCl, an FDA-approved therapeutic, is administered through various routes, including intranasal delivery. Administering an adequate therapeutic dose of intranasal ketamine HCl is challenging due to the limited volume that can be delivered intranasally given the current commercially available concentrations. This study investigates solubilizing strategies to enhance the aqueous solubility of ketamine HCl for intranasal administration.

A Novel Polytetrahydrofuran-Based Shape Memory Polyurethane Enhanced by Polyglycolide-Block-Polytetrahydrofuran-Block-Polyglycolide Copolymer.

Polymers (Basel)

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Organic-Inorganic Composites, Beijing Laboratory of Biomedical Materials, College of Life Science and Technology, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Beijing 100029, China.

A series of polyurethanes (PU-GT) were prepared using polyglycolide-block-polytetrahydrofuran-block-polyglycolide (PGA-PTHF-PGA), polytetrahydrofuran homopolymer (PTHF), glycerol, and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) by a one-pot synthesis method. The non-isothermal crystallization and subsequent heating curves showed that the PTHF component in these polyurethanes could crystallize in a temperature range of -11.5~2.
