Complexity, cross talk and integration of plant MAP kinase signalling.

Published: October 2002

Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) link information transfer from external stimuli-activated sensors to cellular responses. The completed Arabidopsis genome sequence revealed an extraordinary complexity in MAPK-signalling components in plants. Information obtained from Arabidopsis provides a framework for a unified nomenclature and the assembly and function of MAPK-signalling pathways. Strategies and tools are evolving to connect MAPK pathways and to determine their function. As a result, MAPK signalling modules emerged, one of which appears to antagonistically regulate stress- and growth-responses and another that regulates cytokinesis.

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) have garnered significant research attention, yet their complexity has hindered widespread adoption in daily life. Most current electroencephalography (EEG) systems rely on wet electrodes and numerous electrodes to enhance signal quality, making them impractical for everyday use. Portable and wearable devices offer a promising solution, but the limited number of electrodes in specific regions can lead to missing channels and reduced BCI performance.

Aims: The study aims to explore the relationship between impostor phenomenon and emotional exhaustion among nurses and to examine the potential mediating role of bi-directional work-family conflict.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey using convenience sampling was conducted from January to April 2023, involving 4,088 Chinese nurses. Of those, 3,977 nurses across 43 public hospitals completed the web-based survey that included a sociodemographic information questionnaire, the short Clance Impostor Phenomenon Scale, the Bi-directional Scale of Work-Family Conflict, and the Emotional Exhaustion Scale.

Developmental and epileptic encephalopathies constitute a group of severe epilepsies, with seizure onset typically occurring in infancy or childhood, and diverse clinical manifestations, including neurodevelopmental deficits and multimorbidities. Many have genetic aetiologies, identified in up to 50% of individuals. Whilst classically considered paediatric disorders, most are compatible with survival into adulthood, but their adult phenotypes remain inadequately understood.

Instrumentation of C2 vertebra is considered the most difficult for young neurosurgeons and trainees due to its complex anatomical structures, variety of surgical approaches and techniques, and proximity to important neurovascular structures. Key points from a surgical perspective for midline posterior approach is described in the era of neuroradiological advancements.  Computed tomography angiographies (CTAs) of a total of 92 patients were evaluated with special attention to the key findings for insertion of screws for craniovertebral junction (CVJ) fixations.

Psychological impacts of maternal migration on left-behind children: a cross-cultural review.

Front Psychol

January 2025

Institute for Migration Studies, School of Arts and Sciences, Lebanese American University, Beirut, Lebanon.

In the pursuit of a brighter future for their children, many female migrant workers leave their home countries to seek employment abroad, often as caregivers for families in wealthier nations. This decision necessitates prolonged separation from their own children, depriving them of the opportunity to witness and participate in crucial stages of their children's development. The absence of these mothers, combined with inconsistent caregiving in their stead, significantly increases the vulnerability of left-behind children to mental health challenges, such as depression, anxiety, and difficulties in forming emotional bonds with others.
