Objective: To study the effect of two cytokines, basic fibrolast growth factor(bFGF) and insulin-like growth factor-I(IGF-I), on cell proliferation in chondrocytes of adult rabbits.

Methods: The primary chondrocytes of adult rabbits were harvested and cultured with bFGF and IGF-I at different concentrations, respectively, as well as with the mixture of the two cytokines; the quantity of cultured chondrocytes was detected by MTT assay at the 24th, 48th and 72nd hours; and the final fold increase of different groups was measured by cell count for the 3rd passage; and the proliferation index of the groups was recorded by flowing cytometer on the 14th day.

Results: 1. The cultured chondrocytes with either bFGF, IGF-I or their mixture were significantly more than that of control group at the 24th, 48th and 72th hours (P < 0.01). 2. After the 3rd passage, the final folds of proliferation were significantly higher in the groups with cytokines than in the control group (P < 0.01); and the final fold with the mixture of cytokines was significantly higher than that of both IGF-I and bFGF (P < 0.01). 3. The proliferation index was significantly higher in the groups with cytokines than in the control group (P < 0.01); the proliferation index with the mixture of cytokines was significantly higher than that of both IGF-I and bFGF (P < 0.05); besides, proliferation index was higher when cytokine was applied twice than once (P < 0.05); besides, proliferation index was higher when cytokine was applied twice than once (P < 0.05).

Conclusion: bFGF and IGF-I could promote chondrocytes proliferation of adult rabbits obviously and they are synergistic in cell proliferation.

Background: Nucleolar protein 7 (NOL7), a specific protein found in the nucleolus, is crucial for maintaining cell division and proliferation. While the involvement of NOL7 in influencing the unfavorable prognosis of metastatic melanoma has been reported, its significance in predicting the prognosis of patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) remains unclear.

Methods: Aberrant expression of NOL7 in HCC and its prognostic value were evaluated using multiple databases, including TCGA, GTEx, Xiantao Academic, HCCDB, UALCAN, TISCH, and STRING.

Bone defects are difficult to treat clinically and most often require bone grafting for repair. However, the source of autograft bone is limited, and allograft bone carries the risk of disease transmission and immune rejection. As tissue engineering technology advances, bone replacement materials are playing an increasingly important role in the treatment of bone defects.

Introduction: Advanced age is a primary risk factor for many chronic diseases and conditions; however, age-related immune dysregulation is not well understood. Animal models, particularly those that resemble human age-related physiological changes, are needed to better understand immunosenescence and to improve health outcomes. Here, we explore the utility of the olive baboon (Papio anubis) in studying age-related changes to the immune system and understanding mechanisms of immunosenescence.

The cystathionine beta-synthase (CBS) gene plays a critical role in numerous physiological processes, including cellular proliferation, bioenergetics, and redox balance, and has been implicated in many cancers, including breast and gastric cancers. Previous studies have suggested that VNTR polymorphism in intron 13 of the CBS gene may influence enzyme activity, as an increase in the number of repeats in this VNTR leads to a reduction in the activity of the CBS enzyme. In this case-control study, for the first time, we genotyped 107 patients with gastric cancer (and 111 healthy controls) and 138 patients with breast cancer (and 124 healthy controls) for the CBS VNTR polymorphism using PCR.
