Unlabelled: The purpose of the study was to present the results of treatment of lacrimal ducts obstruction. The authors describe the advantages of temporary intubation of lacrimal canaliculi with simultaneous dacryocystorhinostomy. The findings have been based on 38 operations within a sixteen-year period. Obstruction of the lacrimal drainage pathway was due to: trauma, postinflammatory stenosis of the nasolacrimal duct, tumors and jatrogenic injuries of the naso-lacrimal drainage system often following operations of the maxillary sinus. Treatment was based on clinical examination by: slit lamp exam, probing and irrigation of the lacrimal system, X-ray picture of the maxillary sinus, laryngology examination and bacteriological culture from conjunctival sac.

Conclusion: Anatomical and functional results indicate the necessity of this surgery method in selected cases.

Article Synopsis
  • LCIG is a treatment for advanced Parkinson's disease, often starting with a nasojejunal tube (NJT) test phase, but some centers have initiated treatment directly with a PEG-J tube.
  • A study compared these two methods in 33 advanced PD patients, evaluating treatment discontinuations, adverse events, and hospital stay length.
  • Results showed no significant differences in complications or discontinuations between the two methods, but direct initiation with PEG-J reduced hospital stays significantly.

  • A 72-year-old woman with pre-existing health issues underwent an ERCP to remove bile duct stones but faced complications including abdominal pain and jaundice post-surgery.
  • During the ERCP, she experienced a drop in oxygen saturation and arrhythmia, leading to a diagnosis of gas embolism confirmed by imaging, revealing air bubbles in her heart.
  • Despite several emergency interventions, her condition worsened, and due to financial constraints, she was discharged against medical advice, highlighting the rarity and management difficulties of ERCP-related air embolism.

Article Synopsis
  • - Hemorrhage is the main cause of preventable death in trauma situations, leading to military and civilian advancements in medical practices, particularly through the use of tourniquets to manage extremity bleeding and save lives.
  • - While tourniquets have significantly decreased deaths from bleeding in military settings, noncompressible hemorrhage still poses a major risk, especially before patients receive definitive medical care.
  • - The study explores using a small, disposable pressure monitor during resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) to enhance blood pressure monitoring, facilitate better resuscitation practices, and reduce the need for blood products in extreme environments.
