Cerebral static autoregulation (AR) was evaluated at bedside in 14 severely head injured patients. 16 investigations were performed. Cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP) was increased by infusing vasopressors during one hour, and registered every 2-5 minutes. CBF was simultaneously estimated by: 1) middle cerebral artery mean flow velocity (FV) monitoring with Transcranial Doppler (TDC), and 2) the reciprocal of arteriovenous oxygen content difference, calculated from basal and hypertensive arterial and jugular bulb blood samples. AR assessment: For TCD results, linear regression method was used, studying two pairs of variables: a) %FV-CPP (the regression slope was the main AR value adopted) and b) % cerebrovascular resistance (CVR)-%CPP. For the AVDO2 method, autoregulation was considered preserved if estimated % delta CBF/delta PPE < 1%/mm Hg. TCD method clearly defined three groups. Group 1 and 2 (8 and 5 investigations) were considered as two grades of preserved AR, and the third one (3 cases) as impaired AR. AVDO2 method: 12 studies were evaluated. 10 showed preserved AR, and 2 impaired AR. There was coincidence of results from both methods in 10 out of 12 studies. (0.83).

Cerebral autoregulation (CA) is the physiological process by which cerebral blood flow is maintained during fluctuations in arterial blood pressure (ABP). There are various validated methods to measure CA, either invasively, with intracranial pressure or brain tissue oxygenation monitors, or noninvasively, with transcranial Doppler ultrasound or near-infrared spectroscopy. Utilizing these monitors, researchers have been able to discern CA patterns in several pathological states, such as but not limited to acute ischemic stroke, spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage, aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, sepsis, and post-cardiac arrest, and they have found CA to be altered in these patients.

Defining metabolic health is critical for the earlier reversing of metabolic dysfunction and disease, and fasting-based diagnosis may not adequately assess an individual's metabolic adaptivity under stress. We constructed a novel Health State Map (HSM) comprising a Health Phenotype Score (HPS) with fasting features alone and a Homeostatic Resilience Score (HRS) with five time-point features only ( = 30, 60, 90, 180, 240 min) following a standardized mixed macronutrient tolerance test (MMTT). Among 111 Chinese adults, when the same set of fasting and post-MMTT data as for the HSM was used, the mixed-score was highly correlated with the HPS.

Participants stood with their eyes closed, lightly gripping a manipulandum that moved synchronously with body sway to systematically enhance or attenuate feedback gain between +2 and -2, corresponding to motion in the same or opposite direction to the body, respectively.
