Three current strains of measles virus (MV) Fu, IMA and SMD, isolated using B95a cell line, were adapted to Vero cells. After adaption, these strains obtained the ability to agglutinate African green monkey red blood cells (AGM-RBC). We compared hemagglutinin gene sequences and fusion gene sequences of these two kinds of viruses. Fu strain has an Asn (HAD negative) to Tyr (HAD positive) substitution at position 481 in the hemagglutinin glycoprotein. IMA strain has an Asp(HAD negative) to Asn(HAD positive) substitution at position 14 and a Ser(HAD negative) to Gly (HAD positive) substitution at position 546 in the protein. F gene was confirmed identical between viruses. Our data show that two mutations, Asn to Tyr at position 481 and Ser to Gly at position 546 in hemagglutinin glycoprotein are responsible for alteration in hemadsorption.

The feline panleukopenia virus (FPV) is a highly contagious virus that affects cats worldwide, characterized by leukopenia, high temperature and diarrhea. Recently, the continuous prevalence and variation of FPV have attracted widespread concern. The aim of this study was to investigate the isolation, genetic evolution, molecular characterization and epidemiological analysis of FPV strains among cats and dogs in China from 2019 to 2024.

The ongoing global health crisis caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) necessitates the continuous development of innovative vaccine strategies, especially in light of emerging viral variants that could undermine the effectiveness of existing vaccines. In this study, we developed a recombinant virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine based on the Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) platform, displaying a stabilized prefusion form of the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein. This engineered S protein includes two proline substitutions (K986P, V987P) and a mutation at the cleavage site (RRAR to QQAQ), aimed at enhancing both its stability and immunogenicity.

Prostate cancer remains a significant global health concern, prompting ongoing exploration of novel therapeutic agents. Licochalcone A, a natural product in the chalcone family isolated from licorice root, is characterized by its enone structure and demonstrates antiproliferative activity in the micromolar range across various cell lines, including prostate cancer. Building on our prior success in enhancing curcumin's antiproliferative potency by replacing the substituted phenol with a 1-alkyl-1H-imizadol-2-yl moiety, we applied a similar approach to design a new class of licochalcone A-inspired chalcones.

In the field of drug development, the quest for novel compounds that bind to DNA with high affinity and specificity never ends. In the present work, we report the newest development in this field, namely, triplex DNA-specific binding ligands based on the 5-substituted flavone scaffold in our lab. Biophysical studies showed that the newly synthesized flavone derivatives (depending on the side chains) bind to triplex DNA with binding affinities better than or similar to 5-substituted 3,3',4',7-tetramethoxyflavonoids.

Civil briquette furnace slag (FS), as a type of industrial solid waste, is not currently being recycled as a resource by the building materials industry. This study focuses on the potential of FS in the formulation of alkali-activated materials (AAMs) compared with calcium carbide slag (CS). This study encompasses three distinct AAM systems: alkali-activated fly ash alone (AAFA), fly ash-slag powder blends (AAFB), and slag powder alone (AABS).
