Background: The rate constant for global fatty acid influx (k(1)) was studied in 12 male patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).

Method: 10 normal subjects served as controls. 201-Thallium (201TI) and [123I]-phenyl-pentadecanoic acid (IPPA) were administered during bicycle exercise under fasting conditions.

Results: All patients showed non-homogeneous tracer uptake defects for 201TI and IPPA. k(1) was significantly higher in DCM patients than controls. k(1) showed significant inverse correlation between cardiac index, left-ventricular ejection fraction, left-ventricular enddiastolic pressure and echocardiographic left-ventricular ejection fraction.

Conclusion: We presume that an increased regional rate constant of IPPA influx into the myocardial tissue in patients with DCM reflects a compensatory mechanism of altered myocardium.

The management of locally advanced esophageal cancer typically involves esophagectomy; however, postoperative complications, particularly anastomotic stricture, remain prevalent. Anastomotic stricture can severely compromise patients' quality of life by leading to difficulties in food intake. Although endoscopic balloon dilation has become a standard treatment for gastrointestinal strictures, its efficacy is often limited due to the risk of perforation and the potential for recurrent stricture, necessitating multiple interventions.

Unlabelled: The Bland-White-Garland syndrome, or Anomalous Origin of the Left Coronary Artery from the Pulmonary Artery (ALCAPA) syndrome, is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly often associated with high mortality, if left untreated. We present a case of a 43-year-old female with undiagnosed ALCAPA who initially underwent mitral valve surgery for severe mitral regurgitation, only to require reoperation due to adult-type ALCAPA. Intraoperatively, the discovery of dilated right coronary artery and its branches and absence of the left coronary ostium prompted further investigation, leading to the diagnosis of adult-type ALCAPA.

A 71-year-old woman with dilated cardiomyopathy underwent an echocardiogram showing new onset of multiple mobile left ventricular masses. She experienced a mild COVID-19 infection 1 month before. After a multimodality imaging evaluation, vitamin K antagonist treatment was started, with progressive reduction of the masses without clinical events.

Prune belly syndrome (PBS), or Eagle-Barrett syndrome, is a rare congenital disorder marked by abdominal wall muscle deficiency, urinary tract anomalies, and cryptorchidism, causing significant abdominal wall laxity and functional impairment. This case report discusses an innovative approach to abdominal wall reconstruction in a 19-year-old male patient with PBS and associated conditions, including chronic renal failure and spina bifida. Previously, he underwent distal ureterectomy and vesicoureteral reimplantation at the age of two years to correct urinary tract dilation and bilateral orchiopexy.
