We present a novel nuclear magnetic resonance experiment for establishing through-bond connectivity in solids using scalar coupling-driven correlation. This method, a variant of the popular double-quantum-filtered correlation spectroscopy experiment in liquids, is robust under fast magic-angle-spinning conditions and in the presence of dynamics. In HC(60)(+), where anisotropic molecular motion renders through-space dipolar-driven correlation ineffective, this through-bond correlation method answers a significant structural question by accurately identifying the direct bond between the protonated sp(3) hybridized carbon site and the sp(2) hybridized cationic site.

Clusteroluminogens (CLgens) represent an innovative class of nonconjugated luminophores that address the limitations of conventional π-conjugated molecules. Different from the through-bond conjugation mechanism in π-conjugated luminophores, through-space conjugation (TSC) plays dominant roles in CLgens. However, precisely controlling TSC to customize the optical properties of CLgens remains a significant challenge.

In this study, the conformational properties of tertiary trifluoroacetamides in dibenzoazepine ( and ) and benzodiazepine ( and ) derivatives, which exist as equilibrated - and amide conformers in solution, were investigated by H and F NMR spectroscopy. In all cases, one of the methylene protons neighboring the nitrogen atom of the minor conformer showed a finely split pattern due to coupling with the trifluoromethyl fluorine atoms, as confirmed by F-decoupling experiments. One-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) H-F heteronuclear Overhauser spectroscopy (HOESY) experiments were performed to confirm whether these couplings are attributable to through- spin-spin couplings (TBCs) or through- spin-spin couplings (TSCs).

Since autophagy disorder is related to many diseases, it is highly important to detect autophagy. This study aimed to establish a dual-sensing mechanism-based ratiometric viscosity-sensitive lysosome-targeted two-photon fluorescent probe to track the autophagy process (the increase in lysosome viscosity during autophagy) by combining through bond energy transfer (TBET) and aggregation-induced emission (AIE).

Hydrogen-bond-induced π-depletion as a criterion for π-stacking, a configurationally unique noncovalent strategy enabled an unconventional strong binding between the spherical -fulleropyrrolidine (NFP) and the planar distributions of π electron clouds of three substituted pybates to form noncovalent fulleropyrrolidino-4-(pyrenyl) butanoate dyads of large computed interaction energies, varying between 37.49 and 44.93 kcal/mol.
