Published: June 2002

This study reports on 99 magnetic retention units (root caps and minimagnets) were used to stabilise overdentures in 66 patients. Tooth mobility, root caries, periodontal health, denture function, integrity of root caps and minimagnets were evaluated 4-12 years after insertion. The results showed a marked reduction in root mobility (increased stability in 86% of the roots), but extraction of 8% of the roots. After 116 months the survival rate calculated according to Kaplan and Meier was 79% for roots, 90% for caps and 77% for minimagnets. Nine per cent of the roots demonstrated caries and 10% discoloration of the root caps.

Nanoparticles could improve the bioavailability of active agents of various natures to human, animal, and plant tissues. In this work, we compared two methods on the synthesis of calcium phosphate nanoparticles (CaPs), differed by the synthesis temperature, pH, and concentration of the stabilizing agent, and explored the possibilities of incorporation of a low-molecular-weight peptide analogue enalaprilat, the enzyme superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1), as well as DNA and dsRNA into these particles, by coprecipitation and sorption. CaPs obtained with and without cooling demonstrated the highest inclusion efficiency for enalaprilat upon coprecipitation: 250 ± 10 μg/mg of CaPs and 340 ± 30 μg/mg of CaPs, respectively.

Key Laboratory of Soybean Biology in Chinese Ministry of Education (Key Laboratory of Soybean Biology and Breeding/Genetics of Chinese Agriculture Ministry), College of Agriculture, Northeast Agricultural University, Harbin 150030, China.

root rot (FORR) is an important disease threatening soybean production. The development of marker-assisted selection (MAS) molecular markers will help accelerate the disease resistance breeding process and achieve the breeding goal of improving soybean disease resistance. This study evaluated the FORR disease resistance of 356 soybean germplasm accessions (SGAs) and screened resistance-related loci using genome-wide association analysis (GWAS) to develop molecular markers for MAS.

In this paper, the fatigue resistance of a full-scale Steel Catenary Riser (SCR) girth weld is investigated using the Strength-Number of cycles (-) curve method based on weld formation quality and fracture mechanics approaches. The test results, presented in the form of - curves, are superior to the design curve E in BS 7608. Compared with the - curve determined by a resonant bending rig, the analytical fracture mechanics, i.

Sensory neuron LKB1 mediates ovarian and reproductive function.

Treatments for reproductive disorders in women consist of hormone replacement therapy, which have negative side effects that impact health, spurring the need to understand new mechanisms to employ new therapeutic strategies. Bidirectional communication between sensory neurons and the organs they innervate is an emerging area of interest in tissue physiology with a relevance in reproductive disorders. We hypothesized that the metabolic activity of sensory neurons has a profound effect on reproductive phenotypes.

Albedo plays a key role in regulating the absorption of solar radiation within ice surfaces and hence strongly regulates the production of meltwater. A combination of Landsat and Sentinel 2 data provides the longest continuous medium resolution (10-30 m) earth surface observatory records. An albedo product (harmonized satellite albedo, hereafter HSA) has already been developed and validated for the Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS), using harmonized Landsat 4-8 and Sentinel 2 datasets.
