LARGE SCALE ENERGY DECOMPOSITION FOR THE ANALYSIS OF PROTEIN STABILITY.

Cell Stress Chaperones

January 2025

Dipartimento di Chimica, Università di Pavia, Via Taramelli 12, 27100 Pavia, Italy. Electronic address:

To carry out their functions in cells, proteins are required to fold into well-defined three-dimensional conformations. The stability of the folded state dictates several aspects of protein life, such as their evolution, interactions, and selection of structures that are ultimately linked to activity. Sequence mutations may change the stability profile and consequently impact structure and function.

Microbial indicators for water quality in recirculating shower technology.

Sci Total Environ

January 2025

Technical University of Denmark, DTU Sustain, Bygningstorvet, Building 115, 2800 Kg. Lyngby T. Pérez Guillemette, Denmark. Electronic address:

Recirculating showers save up to 70-80 % of the water and energy use of conventional showers, but water quality in these systems are not studied very well due to the technology's early stages. The aim of this study was to provide an overview of information available on which microorganisms were investigated and at which densities. Based on this platform we further aimed at identifying key microbial indicators and pathogens for monitoring water quality in these systems by integrating data from the top five waterborne outbreaks with findings from studies on (1) microbial investigations in reuse projects involving shower effluents or combined bathroom streams, (2) shower water effluents, and (3) biofilms in conventional showers.

Management of heterogeneous construction, renovation, and demolition (CRD) wood residues in Québec brings into light, a widespread topic under discussion related to their current disposal methods in landfills, that may lead to environmental concerns. With rising forfeitures from a legal standpoint, alternative treatment methods for CRD wood wastes are being explored. Thermochemical biomass conversion techniques can be employed to depolymerize low-quality end-of-life CRD wood and valorize it to bio-based products.

This work explores use of a few-shot transfer learning method to train and implement a convolutional spiking neural network (CSNN) on a BrainChip Akida AKD1000 neuromorphic system-on-chip for developing individual-level, instead of traditionally used group-level, models using electroencephalographic data. The efficacy of the method is studied on an advanced driver assist system related task of predicting braking intention. \emph{Approach}: Data are collected from participants operating an NVIDIA JetBot on a testbed simulating urban streets for three different scenarios.

Unlabelled: In very preterm-born infants, nutritional intake is important to reduce the risk of severe metabolic bone disease including the risk of a lower bone mineral density (BMD). The aim of this study was to evaluate bone mineral content (BMC) and BMD (measured as BMC per bone area (BA)) at six years of age in very preterm-born infants fed different diets post-discharge. Data on this topic so far is insufficient, and with this study we aim to supply more useful data.
