Existing and future diagnostic technologies are providing a huge amount of data about the patient, which are to be sensibly managed by the treating physician. More than that, the sheer complexity of the interrelation between these data are calling for a radically new approach in the handling of medical data and information. The physician--representing the pivot between the diagnostic knowledge about the patient's condition and the globally available medical information--is to be supported in his decision-making by automated systems that provide the appropriate information in a timeframe and with a degree of detail that is adjusted to the actual needs of the decision process. To find the right drug for the right patient the doctor needs the right information for the right patient. In this article, requirements for a future Medical Data Web are discussed and possible routes to solutions are indicated.

The antipsychotic medication haloperidol has been used for many years in avian medicine as a pharmacologic therapy for refractory feather destructive behavior in pet parrots. However, despite its common use, there are no published studies evaluating its efficacy and adverse effects in psittacine birds. The goal of this study was to report the signalment, clinical presentation, dosing regimen, response to therapy, and adverse effects of companion psittacine birds prescribed oral haloperidol therapy at a single veterinary referral hospital.

Purpose: This study conducted an analysis of medical malpractice litigation associated with anesthesia from 2013 to 2022, aiming to evaluate incidents of anesthesia-related safety concerns among surgical patients. The use of data derived from medical malpractice claims provided valuable insights into potential risks associated with anesthesia, contributing to the mitigation of medical malpractice and the enhancement of patient safety.

Purpose: The purpose of the project was to reduce the occurrence of nonclinical delays resulting in increased postanesthesia care unit length of stay for carpal tunnel release patients in an ambulatory orthopedic surgery center through the implementation of new workflow processes in both the preoperative and postoperative phases of care.
Design: Pre-post design, with data being analyzed both before and after implementation of evidence-based quality improvement measures to assess for effectiveness of project interventions.
Methods: At the ambulatory orthopedic surgery center, preintervention data were gathered for 6 months on carpal tunnel release patients (n = 185) to determine the root causes of discharge delays (January to June 2023).

Background: There are no contemporary reports that highlight the national outcomes for children with congenital heart disease (CHD) undergoing ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation.
Objectives: This study sought to evaluate differences in VAD outcomes for children with CHD to those with non-CHD as well as those with univentricular CHD to those with biventricular CHD.
Methods: Data for CHD and non-CHD patients from the multicenter ACTION (Advanced Cardiac Therapies Improving Outcomes Network) undergoing VAD implantation from April 2018 to February 2023 were included.
