As a result of alternative trans splicing, three distinct LYT1 mRNAs are produced in Trypanosoma cruzi, two encoding the full-length LYT1 protein and the third encoding a truncated LYT1 protein lacking a possible signal sequence. Analysis of the three mRNAs in different developmental forms of the parasite revealed that the alternative processing events were regulated differently during the parasite life cycle.

Non-human primates (NHPs) are reported as exclusive hosts of Trypanosoma minasense, whose transmission cycle remains unknown. We investigated trypanosomatid infections in 194 NHPs of nine species from the Brazilian Southeast region. We evaluated the impact of landscape composition and forest fragmentation on T.

Most triatomine bugs inhabit nests and shelters of vertebrates, some of which are closely associated with palm trees. A few species occupy domestic and peridomestic habitats, posing a threat to human health as natural transmitters of Chagas disease. A peridomestic specimen that yielded positive results for Trypanosoma cruzi in both microscope and polymerase chain reaction tests was collected during a vector control survey in northeastern Paraguay.

Background And Objective: Serological screening for Chagas disease (CD) in Latin American adults living in Europe is a cost-effective strategy for transmission prevention. The World Health Organization recommends two different serological tests including native and recombinant antigens for IgG detection. In Spain, most commercialized native tests require manual processing.

Coumarin-chalcone hybrids are promising compounds that could be used as lead structures in the fight against parasitic diseases. In this work, sixteen hybrids of coumarin-chalcone (3-cinnamoyl-2H-chromen-2-ones) were synthesized, and their in vitro biological activity was evaluated against intracellular amastigotes of Leishmania braziliensis and Trypanosoma cruzi; as well as their cytotoxicity in the U-937 cell line. Compounds (E)-3-(3-(3-ethoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl)acryloyl)-7-methoxy-2H-chromen-2-one (H25) and (E)-7-(diethylamino)-3-(4-(methoxyphenyl)acryloyl)-2H-chromen-2-one (H12) showed the highest antileishmanial activity with EC50 values of 18.

Background: Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of Trypanosoma cruzi and hepatitis B virus (HBV) increases morbidity and disability in Latin America and the Caribbean. The tailormade comprehensive antenatal care based on the Framework for the elimination of MTCT of HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B virus (HBV), and Chagas disease (EMTCT Plus) has been implemented in the region since 2018 through a private-public partnership. This study aimed to estimate the effectiveness of the intervention in preparing MTCT of T.
