The improvement in the sensitive determination method of estradiol using HPLC with electrochemical detection is described. The improvement was due to the optimization of the potential applied to the electrode of the analytical cell and employment of a guard cell. The detection conditions were optimized from the electrochemical properties of estradiol in acidic and alkaline eluents. The employment of the guard cell drastically decreased the background noise without any reduction in the response of estradiol, and contributed to improvement in the sensitivity. The optimized method combined with pretreatment by liquid-liquid extraction was applied to the determination of estradiol in rat plasma. The detection limit of 8 pg for the standard solution and 24 pg for the plasma sample, which was about 6-8-fold more sensitive compared to the previous reports, was attained.

Background: Health systems are increasingly offering patient portals as tools for patients to access their health information with the goal of improving engagement in care. However, understanding health care providers' perspectives on patient portal implementation is crucial.
Objective: This study aimed to understand health care providers' experiences of implementing the MyChart patient portal, perspectives about its impact on patient care, clinical practice, and workload, and opportunities for improvement.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) burden is strongly associated with an increased risk of stroke, which, in most cases, can be prevented through earlier detection of AF and the timely initiation of anticoagulation therapy. Smartphone devices can provide a simple, non-invasive, cost-effective early AF detection solution. PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases were searched for studies comparing smartphone-based photoplethysmography (PPG) with standard electrocardiogram for AF detection.

Background: Capsular contracture is a common complication following breast reconstruction and augmentation, but there is limited evidence for the association between silicone leaking from the implant and capsular contracture.
Objectives: To determine the association between silicone leaking into the surrounding fibrous capsule and the risk of capsular contracture.
Methods: This multicenter cross-sectional study included patients undergoing revisional surgery for any indication following breast reconstruction or augmentation with silicone implants.

CT chest scans are commonly performed worldwide, either in routine clinical practice for a wide range of indications or as part of lung cancer screening programs. Many of these scans detect lung nodules, which are small, rounded opacities measuring 8-30 mm. While the concern about nodules is that they may represent early lung cancer, in screening programs, only 1% of such nodules turn out to be cancer.

Assessing functional capacity is critical for optimizing preoperative planning and postoperative care. The Duke Activity Status Index (DASI) is a simple, self-administered questionnaire that estimates functional capacity based on daily activities.
