Radial artery spasm is one of the major problems during transradial coronary intervention (TRI). The sheath introducer with hydrophilic coating may reduce the incidence of spasm and reduce the difficulty in removing it from the radial artery under the situation of spasm artery spasm. After we compared the friction resistance between the sheath introducer with hydrophilic coating and that without coating (nine samples each) in vitro, the sheath introducers with and without hydrophilic coating were randomly used in 37 and 36 patients, respectively, who underwent elective TRI with a 6 Fr introducer sheath. Hydrophilic coating of sheath introducer reduced friction resistance by 70% (P < 0.00001) in in vitro model and facilitated sheath removal after finishing TRI (P = 0.0003). Hydrophilic coating of sheath introducer is useful in TRI.

Numerous naturally occurring biological structures have inspired the development of innovative biomaterials for a wide range of applications. Notably, the nanotopographical architectures found in natural materials have been leveraged in biomaterial design to enhance cell adhesion and proliferation and improve tissue regeneration for biomedical applications. In this study, we fabricated three-dimensional (3D) chitin-glucan micro/nanofibrous fungal-based spheres coated with collagen (type I) to mimic the native extracellular matrix (ECM) microenvironment.

In recent years, solar-driven photothermal water evaporation technology for seawater desalination and wastewater treatment has developed rapidly, which is of great significance for addressing the issue of freshwater scarcity. However, due to the high costs associated with the manufacturing, maintenance, and operation of such devices, their application remains challenging in remote and resource-scarce regions. Due to its excellent light absorption capability in the near-infrared region, high hydrophilicity, and stable chemical properties, coupled with the low cost of recycling waste carbonized polyphenylene sulfide, this material is an excellent choice as a photothermal material for solar-driven water evaporation devices.

In this study, we developed zwitterionic surface coatings of carboxybetaine by mimicking natural melanogenesis. We synthesized an unnatural tyrosine-conjugated carboxybetaine (Tyr-CB) that undergoes melanin-like oxidation upon treatment with tyrosinase under various aqueous conditions. The thickness of the resulting poly(Tyr-CB) film was tuned by adjusting the pH during the coating process.

Surfaces capable of specific biomolecule recognition are essential for cancer theranostics, biosensing, and tissue engineering. However, current grafting methods, critical for dictating the recognition efficiency and biocompatibility of biomaterials, especially hydrophilic polymers, struggle to balance high grafting density with ease of implementation. In pursuit of a simple, effective, and versatile solution, we introduced a polydopamine (PDA)-assisted Ca-mediated grafting strategy using hyaluronic acid (HA) as a model material.

The white rot fungus was investigated for its ability to decolorize the reactive textile dye Reactive Black 5 (RB5) that was co-exposed to CdCl and quantum dots (QDs) consisting of a CdTe core capped with two different hydrophilic organic ligands (NAC and MPA). Without co-exposure, completely decolorizes RB5 within 9 days. The highest inhibitory effect was found for soluble CdCl with an EC of 583 μg l, followed by MPA-QDs (10,628 μg l) and NAC-QDs (17,575 μg l).
