[Changes in the H-reflex of children with cerebral spastic hemiparesis].

Zh Nevropatol Psikhiatr Im S S Korsakova

Published: March 1976

A study of the H-reflexes in children with cerebral spastic hemipareses and in the control group of normal children depicted a decrease of the maximum amplitudes of H-reflexes and a drop in the relation Hmax:Mmax, a shortening of the latent period and a slower development of inhibition in sick children; in comparison with normals. Such changes are seen not only on the affected side in the patients, but on the unaffected (although expressed to a less degree). Such states do not permit to consider the nonaffected side as intact. The authors believe that the studied groups of patients are characterized by a disturbed process of intraspinal inhibition.

Aim: To examine the adaptive behaviour profiles of children with monogenic neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) to determine whether syndrome-specific or transdiagnostic approaches provide a better understanding of the adaptive behavioural phenotypes of these NDDs.

Method: This cross-sectional study included parents and caregivers of 243 (48% female) individuals (age range = 1-25 years; mean = 8 years 10 months, SD = 5 years 8 months) with genetically confirmed monogenic NDDs (CDK13, DYRK1A, FOXP2, KAT6A, KANSL1, SETBP1, BRPF1, and DDX3X). Parents and caregivers completed the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, Third Edition to assess communication, daily living, socialization, and motor skills.

Previous research has revealed patterns of brain atrophy in subjective cognitive decline, a potential preclinical stage of Alzheimer's disease. However, the involvement of myelin content and microstructural alterations in subjective cognitive decline has not previously been investigated. This study included three groups of participants recruited from the Compostela Aging Study project: 53 cognitively unimpaired adults, 16 individuals with subjective cognitive decline and hippocampal atrophy and 70 with subjective cognitive decline and no hippocampal atrophy.
