Time-resolved multiangle laser light scattering (TR-MALLS) is used to monitor the temporal variation of DNA/cationic liposome lipoplex molar masses and geometric sizes throughout the complexation process. The measured molar masses and geometric sizes are in turn used to estimate lipoplex density. The DNA/cationic lipid charge ratio is found to be the primary factor governing lipoplex formation kinetics and the final lipoplex molar mass, geometric size and density. Charge ratios near unity lead to a growing kinetic regime in which initially formed primary lipoplexes undergo further aggregation eventually forming large molar mass lipoplexes of high density, while charge ratios very far from unity yield low molar mass lipoplexes of lower density. It is also noted that solvent composition can play a significant role in the lipoplex formation process with lipoplexes formed in ion-containing media being larger and denser than those formed in dextrose solution.

Nanomaterials that engage in well-defined and tunable interactions with proteins are pivotal for the development of advanced applications. Achieving a precise molecular-level understanding of nano-bio interactions is essential for establishing these interactions. However, such an understanding remains challenging and elusive.

Commercial adhesives are petroleum-based thermoset networks or nonbiodegradable thermoplastic hot melts, making them ideal targets for replacement by biodegradable alternatives. Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (P3HB) is a biorenewable and biodegradable alternative to conventional plastics, but microbial P3HB, which has a stereoperfect stereomicrostructure, exhibits no adhesion. In this study, by elucidating the fundamental relationship between chemocatalytically engineered P3HB stereomicrostructures and adhesion properties, we found that biodegradable syndio-rich P3HB exhibits high adhesion strength and outperforms common commercial adhesives, whereas syndiotactic, isotactic, or iso-rich P3HB shows no measurable adhesion.

This study utilized deep eutectic solvents (DES) based on choline chloride/lactic acid (ChCl/LA) to deconstruct coconut fibers. The effects of DES with different temperatures and molar ratios on the yield of lignin, recovery rate of residues, structural changes in lignin and solid residues, and saccharification efficiency were investigated. The results showed that acidic DES treatment effectively deconstructed the coconut fibers, resulting in a high lignin yield of 68.
