Writing, especially writing for publication in a peer-reviewed professional journal, establishes you as a qualified and respected authority in your field and increases your reputation both within and outside your agency. As well, professional writing by nurse leaders contributes to the advancement of the nursing discipline and provides a service to the public. Even more importantly, professional writing can be a stimulating, challenging, creative outlet and allow for personal growth and development. Many nurse leaders, however, find writing a time-consuming and, sometimes, difficult chore, and procrastinate.
