Background: Skin cancers, including melanoma and keratinocyte cancers, are among the most common cancers worldwide, and their incidence is rising in most populations. Earlier detection of skin cancer leads to better outcomes for patients. Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have been applied to skin cancer diagnosis, but many technologies lack clinical evidence and/or the appropriate regulatory approvals.

Skin cancer accounts for over 40% of all cancer diagnoses worldwide. However, accurately diagnosing skin cancer remains challenging for dermatologists, as multiple types of skin cancer often appear visually similar. The diagnostic accuracy of dermatologists ranges between 62% and 80%.

Vulvar cancer, particularly squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and melanoma, poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to its complex presentation and high rates of postoperative complications. Effective management requires a multidisciplinary approach, integrating the expertise of gynecologic oncologists, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and other specialists. This review highlights the dermatologist's role in supporting early diagnosis, addressing predisposing conditions such as lichen sclerosus, and managing postoperative wound complications, including surgical site infections and dehiscence.

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is an aggressive orphan hematopoietic malignancy characterized by cutaneous and systemic hematologic involvement. BPDCN is frequently misidentified, but early, accurate diagnosis is critical to extending patient survival using tagraxofusp, a first-in-class CD123-targeted therapy, and increasing their chances of receiving a potentially curative stem cell transplantation. Cases of BPDCN in countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council are lower than the extrapolated incidence from other geographic locations due to lack of awareness of key diagnostic features, lack of consensus on the minimal phenotype for diagnosis, and lack of local immunohistochemistry testing facilities, contributing to underdiagnosis in this region.
