Published: June 2002

Four new tropane alkaloids were isolated from the leaves of Erythroxylum moonii and identified as 3 alpha-isobutyryloxy-7 beta-hydroxynortropane (1), 3 alpha-hydroxy-7 beta-phenylacetoxynortropane (2), 3 alpha-cis-cinnamoyloxytropane (3), and 3 alpha-hydroxy-6 beta-(3'-hydroxy-2'-methyl-3'-phenylpropionyloxy)-7 beta-hydroxytropane (4). Other alkaloids isolated for the first time from E. moonii were 3 alpha-benzoyloxytropane, 3 alpha-phenylacetoxytropane, 3 alpha-trans-cinnamoyloxytropane, and 3 alpha-phenylacetoxy-6 beta,7 beta-dihydroxynortropane. The structures of compounds 1-4 were elucidated by spectroscopic methods.

Drug abuse is a major public problem in the workplace, traffic, and forensic issues, which requires a standardized test device to monitor on-site drug use. For field testing, the most important requirements are portability, sensitivity, non-invasiveness, and quick results. Motivated by this problem, a point of care (POC) test based on lateral flow assay (LFA) was developed for the detection of cocaine (COC) and methamphetamine (MET) in saliva which has been selected as the matrix for this study due to its rapid and non-invasive collection process.

Piper longum, commonly known as long pepper, is highly valued for its bioactive alkaloid piperine, which has diverse pharmaceutical and culinary applications. In this study, we used high-throughput sequencing and de novo transcriptome assembly to analyze the transcriptomes of P. longum leaves, roots, and spikes.

Background: Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are recommended treatment for mild asthma. We aimed to update the evidence on the efficacy and safety of ICS-containing regimens, leukotriene receptor antagonists (LTRA), and tiotropium relative to as-needed (AN) short-acting β2-agonists (SABA) in children (aged 6-11 years) and adolescents/adults.

Methods: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of regular and AN treatment for mild asthma was conducted (CRD42022352384).

A sample preparation procedure for the analysis of tropane alkaloids (atropine and scopolamine) in multigrain cereal-based baby products (MGBP) has been optimized in this study. The protocol was based on a solid-liquid extraction, followed by purification by solid-phase extraction with MCM-41 functionalised with sulphonic acid groups as sorbent, before the analysis by ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry. The method was successfully validated with limits of quantification of 0.

Background: Despite increasing fatal stimulant poisoning in the United States, little is understood about the mechanism of death. The psychological autopsy (PA) has long been used to distinguish the manner of death in equivocal cases, including opioid overdose, but has not been used to explicitly explore stimulant mortality.

Objective: We aimed to develop and implement a large PA study to identify antecedents of fatal stimulant poisoning, seeking to maximize data gathering and ethical interactions during the collateral interviews.
