Decipinin A (1), a new compound with antifungal and antibacterial activity, has been isolated from liquid cultures of the coprophilous fungus Podospora decipiens (JS 270). Two new tetracyclic sesquiterpene lactones, decipienolides A (2) and B (3), were also obtained from this isolate as an inseparable mixture of epimers that showed antibacterial activity. The structures of 1-3 were elucidated by analysis of 1D and 2D NMR data, aided by chemical shift comparisons to related compounds.

Coprophilous species of sect. , commonly known as "snow inkcap", are widespread in pastoral areas; however, wide sampling approaches are needed to discover new taxa and to clarify the taxonomic status of the so-called "snow inkcap". Nationwide field work was conducted in China with a detailed record collected of the distribution and the animal origin of the dung.

Dung serves as a critical resource for diverse organisms, including dung-inhabiting fungi, which play a key role in nutrient cycling. In this study, we examined the decomposition rates and half-lives of dung from ruminant and monogastric herbivores in a microcosm experiment, assessing the impact of autoclaving (fungal exclusion) on decomposition dynamics. Over six months, autoclaved dung decomposed more slowly, retaining greater biomass and highlighting the fungi's role in matter cycling.

Since a significant proportion of plant matter is consumed by herbivores, a necessary adaptation for many phyllosphere microbes could be to survive through the guts of herbivores. While many studies explore the gut microbiome of herbivores by surveying the microbiome in their frass, few studies compare the phyllosphere microbiome to the gut microbiome of herbivores. High-throughput metabarcode sequencing was used to track the fungal community from milkweed (Asclepias spp.

Unlabelled: We use a combination of proxy records from a high-resolution analysis of sediments from Searsville Lake and adjacent Upper Lake Marsh and historical records to document over one and a half centuries of vegetation and socio-ecological change-relating to logging, agricultural land use change, dam construction, chemical applications, recreation, and other drivers-on the San Francisco Peninsula. A relatively open vegetation with minimal oak () and coast redwood () in the late 1850s reflects widespread logging and grazing during the nineteenth century. Forest and woodland expansion occurred in the early twentieth century, with forests composed of coast redwood and oak, among other taxa, as both logging and grazing declined.
