Fetal pericallosal lipoma: US and MR findings.

Published: August 2002

We report a case of fetal pericallosal lipoma occurring at the anterior interhemispheric fissure and associated with agenesis of the corpus callosum. During targeted prenatal ultrasonography at 26 weeks' gestation, the lesion was seen as a highly echogenic mass. MR imaging performed at 35 weeks' gestation and during the postnatal period revealed a pericallosal fatty mass and agenesis of the corpus callosum.

Background: SARS-CoV-2 infection and perinatal neurologic outcomes are still not fully understood. However, there is recent evidence of white matter disease and impaired neurodevelopment in newborns following maternal SARS-CoV-2 infection. These appear to occur as a consequence of both direct viral effects and a systemic inflammatory response, with glial cell/myelin involvement and regional hypoxia/microvascular dysfunction.

Objectives: To assess objectively the course of the anterior cerebral artery (ACA) by measuring its distance to the tela choroidea in the midsagittal view, and to compare this distance in normal fetuses with that in those with agenesis of the corpus callosum (ACC), a condition known to be associated with an abnormal course of the ACA.

Methods: The tela-choroidea-to-anterior-cerebral-artery distance (TACAD) was measured in the midsagittal view of the brain on color Doppler, between the anterior border of the tela choroidea and the ACA at the level of the callosal genu. Reference ranges in relation to gestational age were established in a prospective, cross-sectional study of 253 normal healthy fetuses between 19 and 36 weeks of gestation.

() gene maps on chromosome Xq13.1 and hemizygous loss-of-function nucleotide variants are associated with an emerging syndromic form of intellectual developmental disorder (MRXS34; MIM #300967), characterized by developmental delay, intellectual disability, poor language, dysmorphic facial features, and microcephaly. Structural brain malformation, such as corpus callosum and cerebellar abnormalities, and heart defects, in particular left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC), represent the most recurrent congenital malformations, recorded both in about 80% of patients, and can be considered the distinctive imaging findings of this disorder.

J Clin Ultrasound

September 2022

Centre for High-Risk Pregnancy and Fetal Care, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Chieti, Chieti, Italy.

Objectives: To report the rate of visualization of the pericallosal artery (PCA) in the first trimester of pregnancy (11-14 weeks).

Methods: Prospective observational study of consecutive fetuses undergoing first trimester risk assessment for chromosomal anomalies. The presence of PCA was assessed in a midsagittal view of fetal brain using high-definition power Color Doppler.

Centre Pluridisciplinaire de Diagnostic Prénatal, Hôpital Femme Mère Enfant, Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, Lyon-Bron, France,

Objectives: Our goal was to provide a better understanding of isolated short corpus callosum (SCC) regarding prenatal diagnosis and postnatal outcome.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed prenatal and postnatal imaging, clinical, and biological data from 42 cases with isolated SCC.

Results: Prenatal imaging showed SCC in all cases (n = 42).
