Department of Surgery, Medical School of University of Pécs, Hungary, Ifjúság útja 13, 7624 Pécs, Hungary.

Published: November 2002

Colorectal manifestation of von Recklinghausen's disease is a rare entity. The typical dumbbell shape of the lesion has been described previously, but only from a resected cecal specimen. The authors present the endosonographic appearance of a rectal neurofibroma, which shows a similar hourglass shape, thus facilitating the diagnosis.

Multiscale Modeling and Simulation of Falling Collision Damage Sensitivity of Kiwifruit.

November 2024

State Key Laboratory of Advanced Rail Autonomous Operation, Beijing Jiao Tong University, Beijing 100044, China.

Falling damage is the most common form of damage sustained by kiwifruit during the process of picking and post-processing, and it is difficult to conduct a quantitative analysis of this phenomenon through traditional experimental methods. In order to deeply understand the sensitivity of kiwifruit to falling collision damage, the finite element numerical simulation method was used to evaluate and predict the sensitivity of kiwifruit to falling collision damage during harvesting. First, we obtained the appearance characteristics of kiwifruit through reverse engineering technology and determined the geometric and mechanical property parameters of kiwifruit through physical mechanics experiments.

Hourglass-shaped europium cluster-based secondary building unit in metal-organic framework for photocatalytic wastewater purification and sterilization via enhanced reactive oxygen species production.

J Colloid Interface Sci

February 2025

School of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, State Key Laboratory for Chemistry and Molecular Engineering of Medicinal Resources, Guangxi Normal University, Guilin 541004, PR China. Electronic address:

A large number of diseases caused by water pollution have become a global public health issue, and the development and construction of innovative and efficient photocatalytic systems for water remediation is vital to improve water quality and prevent bacteria-induced diseases. Herein, a europium-based metal-organic framework (Eu-MOF) was self-assembled with complex hourglass-shaped Eu clusters as secondary building units (SBUs), achieving excellent photoinduced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation ability. Moreover, Eu-MOF can quickly and efficiently degrade organic dyes and kill a variety of bacteria under low-power light irradiation conditions.

The corset trunkplasty was introduced by Moya et al. in 2009 (Moya and Sharma in JPRAS 62:56-64, 2009). It is a modified abdominoplasty technique that combines vertical and high lateral incisions to achieve an hourglass shape in post-massive weight loss patients.

Fabrication of polyoxometalate dispersed cobalt oxide nanowires for electrochemically monitoring superoxide radicals from Hela cell mitochondria.

Henan International Joint Laboratory of Medicinal Plants Utilization, College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, Henan University, Zhengzhou, 450046, China. Electronic address:

An ultrasensitive electrochemical sensor is constructed by electrostatically adsorbing negatively charged hourglass-shape Cu-Polyoxometalate (POM) onto a positively charged CoO nanowires modified carbon cloth. The petaloid CoO nanowires have a large specific surface area that can well disperse open-structured Cu-POM to form Cu-POM@CoONWs@CC, which can maximumly expose catalytic active centers (Co and Cu) and accelerate mass/charge transfer. In addition to the above advantages, the excellent electron exchange ability of Cu-POM and good conductivity of CoONWs@CC endow the sensor with good detection capability to HO including a linear detection range of 0.

Article Synopsis
  • * A case study involving a 53-year-old woman highlighted a successful surgical strategy that combined laminectomy with video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) to resect the tumour, initially discovered as a mediastinal mass on a chest X-ray.
  • * Post-surgery complications included cerebrospinal fluid leakage, necessitating a second operation, but ultimately the patient recovered well, showcasing the need for a tailored, multidisciplinary approach in treating such tumours.
