The immediate restoration or loading of dental implants has been an intense area of clinical trial and research in the field of dental implantology over the last several years. The ability to temporize implants that are placed and prevent the use of a removable transitional appliance is appealing to not only patients, but dentists as well. Additionally, the placement of implants into immediate extraction sockets, and the immediate restoration of those implants, is showing excellent success rates clinically. Enhancement of the healing phase using platelet rich plasma seems to be a key contributor to the healing and maturation rate of both the hard and soft tissues. This article will review the immediate restoration of implants placed into multiple extraction sockets and the use of platelet rich plasma to enhance the healing phase.

Dry socket, a common painful complication after tooth extraction, is typically caused by improper blood clot formation or its premature dislodgement, often exacerbated by bacterial infections. Traditional gelatin sponges, widely used as clinical fillers, provide favorable biocompatibility and hemostatic support but suffer from suboptimal hemostatic efficiency, lack of antimicrobial properties, and insufficient anticoagulant factors, which increase the risk of dry socket. Addressing these limitations, a novel tannic acid cross-linked gelatin sponge has been developed using directional lyophilization.

Orthopedic, maxillofacial, and complex dentoalveolar bone grafting procedures that require donor-site bone harvesting can be associated with post-surgical complications. There has been widespread adoption of exogenously sourced particulate bone graft materials (BGM) for bone regenerative procedures; however, the particulate nature of these materials may lead to compromised healing outcomes, mainly attributed to structural collapse of the BGM, prolonged tissue healing. In this study, a fully synthetic thermoresponsive hydrogel-based universal carrier matrix (TX) that forms flowable and shapable putties with different BGMs while spatially preserving the particles in a 3D scaffold at the implantation site is introduced.
