Microorganisms underpin numerous ecosystem processes and support biodiversity globally. Yet, we understand surprisingly little about what structures environmental microbiomes, including how to efficiently identify key players. Microbiome network theory predicts that highly connected hubs act as keystones, but this has never been empirically tested in nature.

-driven CX3CR1 PD-L1 phagocytes route to tumor tissues and reshape tumor microenvironment.

Gut Microbes

December 2025

Department of Microbial and Biochemical Pharmacy, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China.

The intracellular bacterium (Fn) mediates tumorigenesis and progression in colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the origin of intratumoral Fn and the role of Fn-infected immunocytes in the tumor microenvironment remain unclear. Here, we observed that Fn-infected neutrophils/macrophages (PMNs/MΦs), especially PMNs, accumulate in tumor tissues and fecal Fn abundance correlates positively with an abundance of blood PD-L1 PMNs in CRC patients.

Rice bacterial leaf blight, caused by pv (), is a significant threat to global food security. Although the microbiome plays an important role in protecting plant health, how the phyllosphere microbiome is recruited and the underlying disease resistance mechanism remain unclear. This study investigates how rice phyllosphere microbiomes respond to pathogen invasion through a comprehensive multiomics approach, exploring the mechanisms of microbial defense and host resistance.

Introduction: A demand from the cardiac surgery and heart transplantation department of a French (Lyon) university hospital to adopt an ex-vivo perfusion system of human donor hearts was a chance to actively involve patients in our hospital-based health technology assessment (HB-HTA) process.

Material And Methods: We selected an existing framework for patient involvement in HB-HTA and involved patients at two stages of the HB-HTA process: evaluation and dissemination. Firstly, we conducted a consultation-oriented workshop to gather patient perspectives on the introduction of the technology in our hospital, based on their significant experience of healthcare.

Exploring RPA1-ETAA1 axis via high-throughput data analysis: implications for PD-L1 nuclear translocation and tumor-immune dynamics in liver cancer.

Front Immunol

December 2024

Liaoning Technology and Engineering Center for Tumor Immunology and Molecular Theranotics, Collaborative Innovation Center for Age-related Disease, Life Science Institute, Jinzhou Medical University, Jinzhou, Liaoning, China.

Article Synopsis
  • ETAA1 is recruited to DNA damage sites and regulates ATR activity through its interaction with RPA, which is important for PD-L1 nuclear accumulation and its role in the immune response.
  • Research indicates that the RPA1-ETAA1 axis influences various immune cell types, showing negative correlations with CD8 T and NKT cells but positive correlations with Th2 cells and other suppressive immune cells, suggesting a mechanism for immune evasion in tumors.
  • The study highlights the association of RPA1 and ETAA1 with cancer progression, particularly in liver cancer, indicating their potential as therapeutic targets beyond their traditional roles in DNA repair.
