In order to study the long-term effects of balloon mitral valvoplasty (BMV) on childhood development, we followed up closely 20 mothers with severe mitral stenosis who were treated with BMV during pregnancy. Their offspring aged 63 +/- 39 (range 6-98) months were also regularly assessed using standard developmental charts and relevant laboratory tests. They were all found to have maintained normal growth, development, and speech for their appropriate ages. Developmental milestones were normal for their ages and comparable with those of their siblings. The laboratory tests revealed no abnormalities. Two losses occurred during the early course of follow-up, at the ages of 4 and 37 weeks, respectively. One of the pregnant patients suffered a stillbirth.

Background: In patients with mechanical aortic and mitral valves requiring catheter ablation of ventricular tachycardia (VT), a technique for access from the right atrium (RA) to the left ventricle (LV) via puncture of the inferoseptal process of the LV was previously described in a single-center series.
Objectives: This study sought to report the multicenter experience of VT ablation using this novel LV access approach.
Methods: We assembled a multicenter registry of patients with double mechanical valves who underwent VT ablation with RA-to-LV access.

One of the major issues encountered in patients undergoing evaluation for Transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) is the risk of Left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction. LVOT obstruction is a catastrophic complication of TMVR, the result of displacement of the anterior mitral valve leaflet (AML) toward the interventricular septum. Several strategies to mitigate the risk of LVOT obstruction have been described and include percutaneous laceration of the anterior mitral leaflet (LAMPOON), alcohol septal ablation, trans-atrial leaflet modification (SITRAL) and Balloon Assisted Translocation of Mitral Anterior leaflet to prevent LVOT obstruction (BATMAN).

A 53-year-old male individual with chronic severe mitral regurgitation presented with biventricular dysfunction, pulmonary hypertension, and atrial fibrillation. Echocardiography demonstrated a posterior leaflet prolapse with malcoaptation. Mitral valve repair and Maze procedure were performed, revealing absent chordae and direct connection from the anterolateral papillary muscle to the posterior leaflet, consistent with partial mitral arcade.
