A homogenous enzyme immunoassay (EIA) for measurement of serum thyroxine (T4) concentration was evaluated for use with canine and feline serum. The EIA method was linear from 0 to 150 nmol T4/L for human serum, 0 to 94 nmol T4/L for feline serum and 10 to 60 nmol T4/L for canine serum. Intra- and interassay precision studies yielded coefficients of variation

Unlabelled: Congenital hypothyroidism is one of the most common preventable causes of mental retardation. The Center of Immunoassay has developed the UMELISA® T4 NEONATAL and UMELISA® T4 to determine neonatal T4 levels in dried blood and serum samples. Both reagent kits use the same polystyrene plates coated with anti-thyroxine (T4) polyclonal antibodies as solid phase.

Introduction: Congenital hypothyroidism (CH), phenylketonuria (PKU), galactosemia (GAL) and biotinidase deficiency (BD) are innate errors in metabolism that share varying degrees of mental retardation (MR) as a common characteristic. AIMS. The aim of our study was to screen individuals with MR of unknown origin for CH, PKU, GAL and BD.

[Iodine and thyroid hormone status of mother pigs and their offspring].

Dtsch Tierarztl Wochenschr

November 1997

Thüringer Landesanstalt für Landwirtschaft Jena.

The iodine concentration in the chain sow feed-->blood serum of dams-->milk-->blood serum of piglets (2 per litter) was determined in 36 litters in two experiments with different dietary iodine levels and in 16 litters in the framework of field studies in two piglet production farms in each case at weaning after four weeks lactation. In the blood serum also the concentration of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine was determined. The serum concentration of iodine and T4 did not indicate dietary iodine administration (sows) or showed only a weak response (piglets).

The microheterogeneity of pituitary thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is dependent on variations in the hormone's carbohydrate moieties. In this study, changes in the pattern of heterogeneity have been assessed by chromatofocusing, which separates the isospecies on the basis of their isoelectric points (pI). Rats (n = 6 per group) were either untreated or rendered hypo- or hyperthyroid by including in the drinking water either propylthiouracil (0.
