Published: May 2002

Introduction: Twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome is a threatening consequence of monochorionicity. Without therapeutic intervention it has approximately a 100% mortality rate, but due to therapeutic efforts it improved dramatically to about 20-50% mortality. It is caused by arteriovenosus anastomoses within the placenta, that causes hormonal changes, polyhydramnios, hypertension of the recipient and weight discordance.

Aims: Detection of ultrasonographic and pathologic consequences of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.

Patients And Methods: Ultrasonographic and pathologic findings of six twin pairs were analysed with the common feature of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.

Results: Ultrasonographic and pathologic results were suggestive for fetal hypertension in all recipients and pulmonary stenosis in four of them.

Conclusion: The prognosis of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome can be improved significantly with serial amnioreduction, amniotic fenestration, laser ablation of connecting vessels or selective fetocidium. Proper therapy prevents the development of the serious clinical and pathological consequences of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.

Introduction: Fetoscopic laser surgery (FLS) is the gold standard treatment for monochorionic (MC) twin pregnancies complicated by twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). The aim of our study was to evaluate the rate and risk factors for cord entanglement in the presence of iatrogenic monoamnioticity (iMA), a consequence of inadvertent septostomy during FLS.

Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of two consecutive cohorts of FLS performed either using the selective technique from January 2004 to January 2012, or with the Solomon technique, from that date onwards.

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Taipei Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan; School of Medicine, Chang Gung University, Taoyuan, Taiwan. Electronic address:

Objective: To describe a rare case of a retroperitoneal Müllerian cyst in a teenage girl with a protruding uterus and associated urogenital anomalies, and to discuss the challenges faced in differential diagnosis and management of such cases.

Case Report: We present the case of a 14-year-old girl presented with a protruding uterus for several weeks, with a history of twin-twin transfusion syndrome at birth. Initial ultrasonography identified a large pelvic cystic tumor.

Electronic address:

Objective: The objective of this study was to conduct a longitudinal assessment of inter-twin growth and Doppler discordance, to identify possible distinct patterns, and to investigate the predictive value of longitudinal discordance patterns for adverse perinatal outcomes in twin pregnancies.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included twin pregnancies followed and delivered at a tertiary University Hospital in London (UK), between 2010 and 2023. We included pregnancies with at least three ultrasound assessments after 18 weeks and delivery after 34 weeks' gestation.

Background: Aspirin has proved its efficacy in reducing the rate of preeclampsia in singleton pregnancy, however, there is discrepancy about the efficient dosage that should be used. While some societies recommend daily 75-81mg, others recommend higher dosage (160mg). This discrepancy is due to the lack of randomized controlled studies that compare these two dosages.

Examining the progress and implementation of neonatal peritoneal dialysis in the Ningxia autonomous region.

BMC Pediatr

January 2025

Department of Neonatology, PKUFH-NINGXIA Women & Children's Hospital, No.127 Lakeside Road, Jinfeng District, Yinchuan, Ningxia, 750001, China.

Background: Neonates are prone to experiencing acute kidney injury (AKI) and metabolic irregularities. Although hemodialysis is a primary treatment for these conditions, its utilization is not prevalent in the Ningxia Autonomous Region in China. Peritoneal dialysis (PD) presents itself as an alternative with benefits such as simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and minimal technical complexity compared to hemodialysis.
