Possible mechanisms by which transurethral microwave thermotherapy creates an improvement in vodiing parameters are reviewed. The therapy creates coagulation necrosis in the hyperplastic adenoma, and thus has the potential to create volume reduction, change in the periurethral tissue, and changes in efferent neuromuscular elements and sensory neural elements. Evidence is presented that suggests that several of these mechanisms are likely important, and there is not a singular mechanism of action.

In microwave (MW) thermotherapy, it is challenging to regulate the temporal and spatial distribution of the temperature at the nanoscale. Herein, we report a nanothermometer for simultaneous MW heating and temperature distribution measurement. The nanothermometer was prepared by free radical polymerization with vinylbenzyl trimethylammonium chloride (VBTMACl) as the MW thermosensitizer and isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) as the thermoresponsive unit, followed by anion exchange with fluorophore sodium 3-(4-(1,2,2-triphenylvinyl)phenoxy)propane-1-sulfonate (TPESONa).

Incomplete tumor removal after microwave ablation (MWA), a widely used hyperthermia-based therapy, can result in tumor recurrence. Herein, attenuated Salmonella typhimurium VNP20009 is engineered to release interleukin-15&interleukin-15-receptor-alpha (IL-15&IL-15Rα) in response to mildly elevated temperature. Such 15&15R@VNP colonizes in tumors upon intravenous injection, and the expression of IL-15&IL-15Rα is triggered by MWA.

When microwave hyperthermia (MWH) array antenna technology is used to treat breast cancer, how to effectively target and heat deep tumors and reduce thermal damage to healthy tissues is still a challenge in clinical applications. In this study, the synergistic MWH effect of conformal-array antennas (CAA) and a novel microwave-thermal-sensitive nanomaterial (MTSN) was investigated for the treatment of subcutaneous deep breast cancer.
