This article updates the practitioner on the pharmacology of antiviral agents. The mechanism of action of the six different classifications of antiviral agents is described. Because influenza and herpes are the viral infections that are most frequently treated in clinical practice, the pharmacotherapeutics of common antiviral agents for these infections are described. This includes pharmacokinetics, adverse effects, preparations, and dosages. Other recommendations related to prescribing and client education surrounding each of the pharmaceutical agents is reviewed.

Breast cancer stem cells (CSCs) are difficult to therapeutically target, but continued efforts are critical given their contribution to tumor heterogeneity and treatment resistance in triple-negative breast cancer. CSC properties are influenced by metabolic stress, but specific mechanisms are lacking for effective drug intervention. Our previous work on TFEB suggested a key function in CSC metabolism.

Studies show that propolis has antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor, and immunomodulatory properties, and may protect against diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. We aimed to extract compounds of brown propolis with hydroalcoholic solvents and evaluate their cytotoxic activity on tumor and non-tumor cells by MTT test. Objectives: To analyze access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV in Brazil, comparing transgender and cisgender populations.
Methods: This was a descriptive study using data from the Medication Logistics Control System (Sistema de Controle Logístico de Medicamentos - SICLOM), related to the monitoring of PrEP between January 2018 and December 2023.
Results: During the period analyzed, 149,022 people initiated PrEP, of whom 139,423 (94%) were cisgender and 9,599 (6%) were transgender.
