A nanoemulsion was fabricated from Cananga odorata essential oil (EO) and stabilized by incorporation of Tween 80 using ultrasonication. The major constituents of the EO were benzyl benzoate, linalool, and phenylmethyl ester. Differing sonication amplitude (20-60%) and time (2-10 min) were assessed for effects on nanoemulsion droplet size and polydispersity index (PI).

Validation of an automated quality control method to test sterility of two advanced therapy medicinal products: Mesenchymal stromal cells and their extracellular vesicles.

Hematol Transfus Cell Ther

November 2024

Hospital São Rafael, Salvador, Bahia, Brazil; Instituto D'Or de Pesquisa e Ensino (IDOR), Salvador, Bahia, Brazil; Instituto Gonçalo Moniz, FIOCRUZ, Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Electronic address:

Mesenchymal stromal cells are multipotent cells present in various tissues that are widely studied for relevant therapeutic potential due to their paracrine immunomodulatory and tissue regenerating properties. Many mesenchymal stromal cell-based products are under investigation for the treatment of different clinical conditions. Recently, the therapeutic potential of the extracellular vesicles released by these cells has been under focus, with emphasis on clinical translation.

The Role of Membranes in Modern Winemaking: From Clarification to Dealcoholization.

Membranes (Basel)

January 2025

Laboratory of Agroindustrial Processes Engineering (LAPE), Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), 3013 Taufik Germano Rd., University II DC, Cachoeira do Sul 96503-205, RS, Brazil.

The utilization of membrane technologies in winemaking has revolutionized various stages of production, offering precise and efficient alternatives to traditional methods. Membranes, characterized by their selective permeability, play a pivotal role in enhancing wine quality across multiple processes. In clarification, microfiltration and ultrafiltration membranes, such as ceramic or polymeric membranes (e.

2-Propanol Suspension Method to Increase Acetylcholinesterase and Flow Stability on μPADs.

ACS Appl Bio Mater

January 2025

Division of Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering, Hokkaido University, Kita 13 Nishi 8, Kita-ku, Sapporo 060-8628, Japan.

Ensuring detection performance and shelf life is crucial for analytical devices. Advances in materials and reaction mechanisms have improved detection performance, yet extending the operational lifetime of microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPADs)─especially those reliant on sensitive enzymes─remains a challenge. Here, we present an alternative to air-drying and lyophilization: loading enzymes suspended in 2-propanol (iPrOH).

Assessing water quality restoration measures in Lake Pampulha (Brazil) through remote sensing imagery.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

January 2025

LEESU, Ecole des Ponts Paris Tech, UPEC, AgroParisTech, F-77455 Marne-la-Vallée, Paris, France.

Urban reservoirs are frequently exposed to impacts from high population density, polluting activities, and the absence of environmental control measures and monitoring. In this study, we investigated the use of satellite imagery to assess restoration measures and support decision-making in a hypereutrophic urban reservoir. Since 2016, Lake Pampulha (Brazil) has undergone restoration measures, including the application of Phoslock®, to mitigate its poor water quality conditions.
