An increasing number of studies have reported the coexistence of arsenic (As) and phosphorus at high concentrations in groundwater, which threatens human health and increases the complexity of groundwater remediation. However, limited work has been done regarding As interception in the presence of phosphate in flowing systems. In this study, a series of experiments were conducted to evaluate the interactions between phosphate and As during As removal by iron (Fe)-based biochar (FeBC).

Background: Widely used neuropsychological test instruments are notoriously biased across the demographics of age, sex/gender, education, language and culture. This includes verbal memory tests that elicit speech such as the paragraph recall or list-learning memory tests. Language tests are similarly biased, including the Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Examination Cookie Theft Test (CTT) that has been used to elicit both written and spoken responses for decades.

Despite adjuvant treatment with endocrine therapies, estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancers recur in a significant proportion of patients. Recurrences are attributable to clinically undetectable endocrine-tolerant persister cancer cells that retain tumor-forming potential. Therefore, strategies targeting such persister cells may prevent recurrent disease.

Carbon-14 (C-14) has been a major contributor to the human radioactive exposure dose, as it is released into the environment from the nuclear industry in larger quantities compared to other radionuclides. This most abundant nuclide enters the biosphere as organically bound C-14 (OBC-14), posing a potential threat to public health. Yet, it remains unknown how this relatively low radiotoxic nuclide induces health risks via chemical effects, such as isotope effect.
