This paper examines internal migrant selection in Italy using individual height data from the 1951 and 1980 birth cohorts of military conscripts. Information on both place of birth and residence of conscripts allows us to compare migrants' heights to the height distributions of their non-migrant peers at the national level and to their populations of origin. Results suggest that migrants from southern Italy were negatively selected at the national level, while a positive selection in height emerged if compared to conscripts who remained in their macro-area of origin.

Nanozyme-based colorimetric sensors are promising approaches for environmental monitoring, food safety, and medical diagnostics. However, developing novel nanozymes that exhibit high catalytic activity, good dispersion in aqueous solution, high sensitivity, selectivity, and stability is challenging. In this study, for the first time, single-atom iridium-doped carbon dot nanozymes (SA Ir-CDs) are synthesized via a simple in situ pyrolysis process.

Effect modification occurs when the impact of the treatment on an outcome varies based on the levels of other covariates known as effect modifiers. Modeling these effect differences is important for etiological goals and for purposes of optimizing treatment. Structural nested mean models (SNMMs) are useful causal models for estimating the potentially heterogeneous effect of a time-varying exposure on the mean of an outcome in the presence of time-varying confounding.
