To our knowledge there are no histomorphological studies examining the lingual papillae in pregnancy. Therefore, this present study was planned. The purpose of this study was to clarify different physiological results and to investigate whether there are any changes on the dorsal surface of the rat tongue during pregnancy. On days 7 and 14 of pregnancy, superficial epithelial configurations of the lingual papillae (circumvallate, fungiform, filiform) in pregnant rats were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was found that there were some differences in topographic configurations of these papillae in pregnant rats compared with controls. The obtained changes by SEM may reflect something which occurs in the lingual papillae during pregnancy in rat. There may be a correlation between the alterations of some hormone levels in pregnancy and some morphological changes of the lingual papillae.

Background: The histological hallmark of male androgenetic alopecia (MAGA) is transformation of terminal follicles into miniaturized secondary-vellus follicles. As the volume of the dermal papilla determines the size of the hair bulb and hair fibre diameter, any treatment induced increase in fibre diameter could be used as a proxy for reversal of hair follicle miniaturization. While clinical trials with minoxidil topical solution in MAGA do not demonstrate increased fibre diameter, vellus-to-terminal reconversion is shown in a humanized mouse model treated with MXL.

Black hairy tongue (BHT) is a benign, self-limiting, and usually asymptomatic condition, characterized by abnormally hypertrophied and elongated filiform papillae on the surface of the tongue. In this article, we present the case of a woman diagnosed with hebephrenic schizophrenia who developed BHT after using olanzapine to treat an acute episode of the disease. The temporal coincidence between the development of BHT and the increase in olanzapine dosage to 20 mg daily suggests a likely dose-dependent relationship, making this psychotropic drug the most probable cause of this condition.

Black hairy tongue, also known as , is a benign oral condition characterized by a dark discoloration and "hairy" appearance on the tongue's dorsal surface, resulting from elongated filiform papillae. This condition is associated with risk factors such as smoking, poor oral hygiene, and diabetes, which increase susceptibility to microbial colonization, particularly by species. Although commonly diagnosed by visual inspection, black hairy tongue is infrequently observed during endoscopic procedures.

Different taste cells express unique cell-type markers, enabling researchers to distinguish them and study their functional differentiation. Using single-cell RNA-Seq of taste cells in mouse fungiform papillae, we found that Cellular Communication Network Factor 3 (Ccn3) was highly expressed in Type III taste cells but not in Type II taste cells. Ccn3 is a protein-coding gene involved in various biological processes, such as cell proliferation, angiogenesis, tumorigenesis, and wound healing.

Introduction: About 80% of patients receiving chemotherapeutics suffer from side effects related to the gastrointestinal tract. Irinotecan (CPT-11) is a chemotherapeutic agent usually used in treating solid tumors. Quercetin (QRT), a bioflavonoid, is an antioxidant and scavenger reactive oxygen species scavenger.
