The selection, synthesis and chromatographic evaluation of a synthetic affinity adsorbent for human recombinant factor VIIa is described. The requirement for a metal ion-dependent immunoadsorbent step in the purification of the recombinant human clotting factor, FVIIa, has been obviated by using the X-ray crystallographic structure of the complex of tissue factor (TF) and Factor VIIa and has directed our combinatorial approach to select, synthesise and evaluate a rationally-selected affinity adsorbent from a limited library of putative ligands. The selected and optimised ligand comprises a triazine scaffold bis-substituted with 3-aminobenzoic acid and has been shown to bind selectively to FVIIa in a Ca(2+)-dependent manner. The adsorbent purifies FVIIa to almost identical purity (>99%), yield (99%), activation/degradation profile and impurity content (approximately 1000 ppm) as the current immunoadsorption process, while displaying a 10-fold higher static capacity and substantially higher reusability and durability.

Industrial wastewater containing heavy metal ions presents serious economic risk to the environment. In this study, a novel compound of aminated cellulose with jeffamine EDR148 was prepared to improve cellulose's adsorptive behavior towards metal ions. This study undertook a straightforward and efficient cellulose modification through homogeneous chlorination in N,N'-butylmethylimidazolium chloride to produce 6-deoxychlorocellulose (Cell-Cl), followed by a reaction with jeffamine EDR148 and ultimately resulting in the formation of aminated cellulose (Cell-Jef148).

Background/objectives: Exogenous melatonin adsorbed onto PEG microspheres can modulate the functional activity of phagocytes in colostrum, but no data are available on the activity of melatonin found in colostrum. Therefore, the objective of this study was to extract melatonin from human colostrum, develop and characterize PEG microspheres with the extracted melatonin adsorbed onto them, and evaluate the effects of this system on the oxidative metabolism of colostrum phagocytes.
Methods: Thirty colostrum samples were collected; ten were used for melatonin extraction, while twenty were used to obtain phagocytes.

Sulfaquinoxaline (SQX) is widely utilized in aquaculture and animal husbandry due to its broad antimicrobial spectrum and low cost. However, it is difficult to degrade, and there are relevant residues in the aquatic environment, which could be harmful to both the ecological environment and human health. As a new recognition molecule, the aptamer can be recognized with SQX with high affinity and specificity, and the aptamer is no longer adsorbed to AuNPs after binding to SQX, which weakens the catalytic effect of AuNPs.

We develop a technology based on competitive adsorption between drug molecules and water, specifically designed to address the critical issue of poor drug solubility. By specially engineering silica nanosurfaces with ultrahigh densities of silanol, we significantly enhance their affinity for both drug molecules and water, with a notably greater increase in water affinity. Such surfaces can effectively adsorb a variety of drug molecules under dry conditions.

Recent times have witnessed revolutionary progress in the design and development of functionalized nanomaterials as promising tools for biomedicinal applications. However, the gap in the fundamental understanding of the "biological responses" of the nanomaterials after the formation of "protein-corona" when it is exposed to the body system has drawn a thin line from its discoveries to real clinical trial. In this article we have synthesized two different silver NPs capped with the polyphenols of (guava) leaf extract and the other with one of its major polyphenolic groups, morin.
