In Stroop color naming, color targets were accompanied by a color word or a color word plus a neutral word that reduces or "dilutes" the Stroop effect. Abrupt-onset cues called the focus of attention to one stimulus or another. Cuing influenced the size of the Stroop effect but never eliminated it. Unlike the Stroop effect itself, Stroop dilution from the neutral word could be eliminated, by cuing the color word. Focusing visual attention on the color word protected it from Stroop dilution; focusing visual attention on the neutral word did not prevent Stroop interference. Thus, spatial attention is a modulator, protecting visual data from crosstalk, but a word need not be the focus of visual attention to be recognized.

Nasal food challenge with hen's egg white allergen.

Allergy Asthma Clin Immunol

January 2025

Department of Prevention of Environmental Hazards, Allergology and Immunology, Medical University of Warsaw, Zwirki I Wigury 61, 02-097, Warsaw, Poland.

Background: Nasal allergen provocation tests are an important part of the diagnostics of allergic diseases triggered by environmental factors. Recently, increased attention has been paid to the potential use of this method in the diagnosis of food allergy. The objective of the study was to evaluate the usefulness of the nasal allergen provocation test in a group of subjects allergic to hen's egg white allergens.

DTI-MHAPR: optimized drug-target interaction prediction via PCA-enhanced features and heterogeneous graph attention networks.

BMC Bioinformatics

January 2025

School of Information and Artificial Intelligence, Anhui Agricultural University, Changjiang West Road, Hefei, 230036, Anhui, China.

Drug-target interactions (DTIs) are pivotal in drug discovery and development, and their accurate identification can significantly expedite the process. Numerous DTI prediction methods have emerged, yet many fail to fully harness the feature information of drugs and targets or address the issue of feature redundancy. We aim to refine DTI prediction accuracy by eliminating redundant features and capitalizing on the node topological structure to enhance feature extraction.

Development of the relationship between visual selective attention and auditory change detection.

Neuroimage

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning, Beijing Normal University, Beijing, 100875, China. Electronic address:

Understanding the developmental trajectories of the auditory and visual systems is crucial to elucidate cognitive maturation and its associated relationships, which are essential for effectively navigating dynamic environments. Our one recent study has shown a positive correlation between the event-related potential (ERP) amplitudes associated with visual selective attention (posterior contralateral N2) and auditory change detection (mismatch negativity) in adults, suggesting an intimate relationship and potential shared mechanism between visual selective attention and auditory change detection. However, the evolution of these processes and their relationship over time remains unclear.

Exploring policy coherence for land use transformations: The case of Scotland.

January 2025

Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), Peter Wilson Building, Kings Buildings, Edinburgh, EH9 3JG, UK. Electronic address:

The multiple crises (climate, biodiversity, austerity) facing our socio-ecological systems require ambitious responses; with much of the responsibility for protecting public goods and developing sustainably lying with public policy. To tackle these wicked problems, there are increasing calls for policy coherence: to use the levers of government in a more holistic and systemic manner. Land use transformation is crucial to achieving these ambitions.

A substantial proportion of patients suffer from Post-COVID Syndrome (PCS) with fatigue and impairment of memory and concentration being the most important symptoms. We here set out to perform in-depth neuropsychological assessment of PCS patients referred to the Neurologic PCS clinic compared to patients without sequelae after COVID-19 (non-PCS) and healthy controls (HC) to decipher the most prevalent cognitive deficits. We included n = 60 PCS patients with neurologic symptoms, n = 15 non-PCS patients and n = 15 healthy controls.
