A 28-year-old man with a history of myotonic dystrophy (MyD) is described. His progressively worsening excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) was treated with methylphenidate hydrochloride. Polysomonography (PSG), the multiple sleep latency test (MSLT), middle latency-evoked response, and auditory event-related potentials were used to assess the cause of EDS. The PSG detected small numbers of central sleep apneic episodes. Mean sleep latency, which was determined by MSLT, increased from 5 min before treatment to 14 min after treatment. The Pa, P1, and N1 amplitudes at the Cz site increased after treatment, but P3 latency remained unchanged. These observations suggest that EDS and impairment of cognitive and information processing seen in a patient with MyD may be caused by a central nervous system disorder.

Aim: The current study aimed to investigate the protective effects of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), metyrosine, and melatonin on possible methylphenidate cardiotoxicity in rats using biochemical and histopathological methods.
Methods: Thirty rats were separated into five groups: healthy (HG), methylphenidate (MP), ATP + methylphenidate (ATMP), metyrosine + methylphenidate (MSMP), and melatonin + methylphenidate (MLMP). ATP (5 mg/kg) was given intraperitoneally once daily, metyrosine (50 mg/kg) orally twice daily, and melatonin (10 mg/kg) orally once daily.

Background: Metoclopramide, a dopamine antagonist employed for its antiemetic effects, can precipitate neuropsychiatric adverse effects, including extrapyramidal symptoms and, in a few instances, acute psychosis. Although there have been reports of metoclopramide-induced psychosis in elderly individuals, there is no documentation of such incidents in children as far as we are aware.
Case Presentation: This case report describes an 11-year-old girl with a history of mild intellectual disability and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, managed with 10 mg of methylphenidate daily.
